Erik Stams

Erik Stams is our Head of Drums at BIMM London. Originally hailing from New York City, he was once a student of the highly regarded rhythm educator Henry Adler, whose notable protégés included the late great jazz drummer and big band legend, Buddy Rich.

After moving to the UK in the mid-nineties, Erik’s career went from strength-to-strength with performances and recording sessions alongside the likes of Butch Thomas (Sting, Lenny Kravitz), Viola Wills, Jamie Lawson, the Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Jon Langford, Bond, John Wheatcroft, Stu Hamm and Dave Marks.

One of Erik’s latest projects is Lethbridge Owen; a successful folk-rock band featuring fellow BIMM London performance tutor, Kelly Lethbridge.

Graham Godfrey

Graham’s versatility as both a drummer and a producer means he has performed with some of the industry’s top names, including tours with the likes of Mumford & Sons, Michael Kiwanuka, Joss Stone, Jason Derulo, Gabrielle, Tegan and Sara, Ms. Dynamite and Mercury Music Prize-winner, Speech Debelle.

When he’s not performing, Graham can often be found in his West London recording studio indulging his love of 60s and 70s soul, rock and jazz.

Adam Betts

Adam is one of the more recent recruits to BIMM London’s drumming faculty and a genuine pioneer of his craft. His inventive fusion of syncopated rhythms and drum-triggered synthesisers has led to a reputation as a creative force to be reckoned with.

Outside of teaching, Betts is perhaps best known for his work with experimental electronic troupe ‘Three Trapped Tigers’. In addition to also being a sought-after session musician, he recently launched his own collaborative solo project, ‘Colossal Squid’.

Elliot Henshaw

Elliott has performed with the likes of Gabriella Cilmi, Shirley Bassey, John Lord and Roger Glover (Deep Purple), the BBC Big Band, the Syd Lawrence Orchestra and Paul Anka. He also has a wealth of pit-work experience in London’s West End, including performances with Jersey Boys, The Lion King and The Rat Pack.

In 2012, Henshaw conceived the idea of producing a 25th Anniversary Buddy Rich Memorial concert, in which he assumed the role of Creative Director. The event, which was hosted by Buddy’s daughter, Cathy Rich, was staged at the London Palladium.

Ian Matthews

As the drummer for multi-platinum selling, BRIT Award-winning rock troupe Kasabian, Ian Matthews has amassed a wealth of gigging experience including headline performances at Glastonbury, sell-out stadium tours and festival performance throughout the world.

When he’s not busy being a rock star, Ian acts as a visiting faculty member across BIMM’s UK colleges, giving drum workshops, masterclasses and advising potential students during our experience days.
