All BIMM three-year undergraduate degree courses are priced at £9,250 for UK students.
Fees Status
Your tuition fee charge will depend on whether you’re classified as a student from ‘Home’, ‘Channel Islands and the Isle of Man’ or ‘Overseas’. These classification rules are strictly determined by the UK Government.
Please see the definitions of fee status classifications below:
- ‘Home’: Given to students settled and ordinarily resident in the UK. Also given to Switzerland or British Overseas Territories for three years prior to the course start date.
- ‘The Channel Islands and Isle of Man’: Given to students who are from the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (the British Isles, but outside the UK). They are charged the Home rate.
- ‘Overseas’: Given to students from other countries (exceptions include students temporarily outside the UK, those with UK Government refugee status and migrant workers).
- ‘Irish Nationals’: Irish citizens resident in the UK, Islands or Ireland for three years before the start of their course and undertaking a course in England will be eligible for home fee status, tuition fee loans and Advanced Learner Loans from Student Finance England on the same basis as UK nationals. Additionally, Irish citizens will be eligible for maintenance support in England if they have lived in the UK and Islands for three years before the start of the course.
Applicants with the UK nationality should note that such nationality does not guarantee they’ll be classed as a ‘Home’ student. Various residence requirements must be satisfied.
If your fee status classification is unclear, you’ll be sent a questionnaire to complete so your status can be determined.
Student finance is available to eligible students for all BIMM undergraduate degree courses. Tuition Fee Loans will cover the full course fee and Maintenance Loans are available to eligible UK students to help with living costs while studying.*
Student Loans
We’re continually committed to ensuring the best value music education possible. We’ve recently registered with the Office for Students (OfS) – the new regulator of all Higher Education Institutions in the UK.
This has several implications for our institution and in particular, affects the loans that students at BIMM Institute and in the UK can receive in respect of their tuition fee.
This means that BIMM Institute students can now apply for a student loan to cover the full amount of their tuition fee (£9,250). Previously, the maximum loan available was £6,165.
You can find out more information on the guidelines and how to apply for a student loan at www.slc.co.uk.
*All fees quoted apply to the 2021/22 academic year only, are on a per annum basis and may be subject to change.
Students from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales should select the appropriate link for finance:

Fees & Finance – Germany
Because we’re Europe’s largest and most prestigious music institute, we’re uniquely positioned to offer outstanding value and quality to all our students.
We’re dedicated to giving our students the best music education possible – which means accessing our expert lecturers in industry-leading facilities at the heart of the UK’s music scene.
We make sure all BIMM Institute courses are great value for money – representing a practical and affordable investment for your future career in the music industry.
BAföG – State funding for students in Germany
Students at BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg were previously entitled to ‘BAföG’ financial maintenance support during their studies, paid by the Federal Education Authority. BAföG is otherwise known as the Federal Training Assistance Act.
This recognition by the Federal Education Authorities in Berlin and Hamburg was of great assistance to students, and a reflection of the academic quality of BIMM Institute’s Undergraduate (Degree) courses and recognition by the German government.
Due to the UK leaving the EU (Brexit), this funding opportunity for students has expired as BIMM Institute is no longer classified as an EU educator. Despite this, our Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses are still recognised within the Academic EU Framework, of which Britain remains part of.
The political process and terms of the Brexit agreement are ongoing. BIMM Institute is keeping in touch with local authorities to monitor developments and should there be a chance of BAföG maintenance support resuming under a new agreement, we will keep you informed via updates to this webpage and by email.
What is BAföG support?
BAföG maintenance support is paid to you directly in monthly instalments throughout your studies. Its purpose is to help towards your living costs as a student and offset certain costs such as housing, bills or tuition expenses.
Your funding eligibility is decided on a ‘means-tested’ basis. This considers aspects such as parental income, if you are financially independent or have children/ other dependants. It is completely up to you how you decide to use this financial support – it can offset your tuition fee or be used to support your living costs during studies.
If students are successful in their application, they could be eligible to receive up to a very maximum of €853 per month, and only 50% of this will need to be paid back after their studies. Please note that depending on the application and the various factors taken into account, the financial award given can be anywhere between €0 to €853 per month, and for example, a student who has additional responsibilities such as being a carer or having their own children will be awarded towards the higher end of this scale.
You apply for BAföG before your studies begin in September, via either the Hamburg or Berlin local senate education authority. The Admissions Team can provide further information on this once you have confirmed you will study a course at either BIMM Institute Berlin or Hamburg, and proof of study will be required as part of your BAföG application which BIMM Institute needs to confirm.
BIMM Institute is monitoring developments as the situation of Britain leaving the EU become clearer, and we hope that students at BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg can continue to receive BAföG maintenance support later in 2021.
Government funding
Some students may be able to get a student grant or loan from their local government to cover their tuition or living costs:
Sweden: Please visit the CSN website for more information – www.csn.se
Norway: Please visit the Lånekassen website for more information – www.lanekassen.no
Denmark: Please visit the SU website for more information – www.su.dk

Students with International fee status are charged different tuition fee amounts and have different funding options in comparison to students with EU fee status. Funding available to students with International fee status is very limited, and the majority of such students would not be able to receive any funding. We encourage you to explore all options, however, and you may wish to explore the below further:
- Bafög (Federal Training Assistance Act)
- Scholarships, bursaries and awards available to you locally through BIMM Institute (generally announced in April/ May each year)
- Loans
- Private Sponsorships
