Applying for an undergraduate course at BIMM Music Institute in the UK
If you already know the course you wish to apply for then just follow our simple checklist below to make your application.
If you’re not applying from within the UK, you can apply directly to us. Please visit our dedicated page for international applicants.

Application checklist
- Apply via the UCAS website. This includes writing a personal statement, advice on which can be found here.
- As soon as we have received your UCAS application, the admissions team will be in touch to advise of next steps.
Depending on your course, you may be invited to attend an audition, submit a portfolio review or a demo submission. You can also do this in advance of submitting your UCAS application. - You will receive either a conditional or unconditional offer, depending on whether we require more information or exam results from you. You can accept your place on the Hub at www.ucas.com.

BIMM Music Institute application process
We’ve simplified our application process to help you get an offer sooner and kickstart your career in music.
Music industry courses
Offers for Music Business, Event Management or Music Marketing, Media and Communication courses are based on your predicted or actual grades. Or, if you’d prefer, you can join us at an open day to tour the college and chat with your future lecturers and peers.
Music production courses
If you’re looking to take a production course, you can show us your skills and knowledge during a portfolio review. This can be taken in-person, virtually or via remote submission to suit you. You can also complete a portfolio review before you’ve formally applied by submitting it digitally in advance or by booking an in-person session at one of our college locations.
If you are have completed or are currently studying a level 3 subject that is relevant to our Music Production courses, you may not need to submit a portfolio. The Admissions team will confirm if this applies when your UCAS application is received.
Music performance and songwriting courses
It’s now easier than ever to book an audition. You can book before you’ve formally applied and can take it in person, virtually or via video submission.
Accelerated Applications
If you are applying for a performance course and hold a recognised UK Grade 6-8 qualification in your chosen instrument, you won’t need to audition.
Simply send proof of your grade to [email protected]. We accept the following qualifications but will happily review other Ofqual-recognised qualifications. Just get in touch with our Admissions Team.
- RSL Rockschool Award: Grade 6 and above in: bass, drums, guitar (electric), piano, keyboard, vocals
- Trinity’s Rock & Pop Qualification: Grade 6 and above in: bass, drums, guitar, piano, keyboard, vocals
Step 1: Apply via UCAS
All applicants will need to submit an application through UCAS at www.ucas.com using the appropriate UCAS Course Code (which you can find on our course pages). Once your application has been received, we may invite you to an audition, portfolio review or optional consultation.
Your UCAS application involves writing a personal statement. This gives us an insight into your ambitions, skills and previous experience, as well as giving you a chance to show your passion for your preferred path. Step 2a. Popular Music Performance and Songwriting
For Popular Music Performance (guitar, bass, drums, vocals and keyboards) and Songwriting, we’d love to see what you’ve got. You will be invited to attend an audition (in person or remotely) or you can submit a video recording of your playing. We aim to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for your audition so that you feel at ease. Your offer will be made on the outcome of this audition/video recording and your predicted grades.
Accelerated Applications
If you hold a recognised qualification of Grade 6 or above in your chosen instrument, you won’t need to audition. Simply send proof of your grade to [email protected] to make use of our Accelerated Application route to receive your offer sooner. We accept the following qualifications but will happily review other Ofqual-recognised qualifications. Just get in touch with our Admissions Team.

Step 2b. Music Business, Event Management, Music Marketing, Media and Communication
Offers for music industry courses are based on your predicted or actual grades. Every applicant will be invited to join us for a consultation where you can discuss your career aspirations and if the course is right for you. Or, if you’d prefer, you can join us at an open day to tour the college and chat with your future lecturers and peers.
Step 2c. Music and Sound Production, Electronic Music Production
For music production courses, we’d love to see a portfolio of your work. A portfolio review is a chance for you to show us your skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. They can be done in-person, virtually or via remote submission to suit you. Your offer will be made on the outcome of this portfolio review and your predicted grades.
Step 3: Receive an offer
If your UCAS application is successful, you’ll either be made a ‘conditional’ or ‘unconditional’ offer.
‘Conditional’ means that your place is pending until we receive any further information required, such as exam results and certificates.
‘Unconditional’ means that you have met the entry criteria for the course.
Step 4: Confirm your place
Confirmation of your place will be made through ‘Hub’ on www.ucas.com. It’s then up to you to confirm your place. Once you have accepted the offer, the BIMM Admissions Team will be in touch with further guidance and information where applicable.

There are different deadlines for domestic and international students. For the 2024-25 academic year, these deadlines are as follows:
- For domestic students, the deadline is 13th September 2024.
- For international (SRV) students, the deadline is 23rd August 2024.
Applications received after the dates above will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Step 1: Start Your Application
You can apply directly to BIMM Music Institute by creating an applicant account and submitting an online application form:
Step 2: Interview
Once we have received your completed application form, we will be in touch to arrange your interview with a Course Leader. This can be in person or via phone/Skype subject to availability.
You will be sent a confirmation email with the date, time and location as well as some guidelines on what to prepare. If you have any concerns regarding your interview or require assistance with preparation, please contact the Admissions Team.
If you are attending your audition in person, the Course Leader will let you know if you have been recommended to study and provide you with valuable feedback and tips on how to further develop your skills. In some circumstances, your application may need to be reviewed by a specialist in the department before a final decision can be made.
All information will then be sent to the Admissions Team.
Step 3: Offer
The Admissions Team will send you an offer pack and contract. All offers will be Conditional until you are able to prove that you have achieved the entry requirements for the course.
We will be able to amend your offer to Unconditional once you have sent us copies/clear photographs of your certificates and we have verified that you meet the academic entry requirements.
Step 4: Acceptance
In order to accept your offer, please sign into your Applicant Portal to view your offer contract in ‘My Application’. Once you have reviewed your contract, you will be able to confirm your place. Please follow the step-by-step process.
Once you have confirmed your place, our finance department will be in touch during the summer months to confirm your method of payment for the course. You will then receive information regarding enrolment.
