BIMM Birmingham Fees & Finances

Everything you need to know

We’re dedicated to giving our students the best value music education possible – which means accessing our globally successful first-rate tutors in a dedicated location at the epicentre of the local music industry…not to mention the option of spending a year studying at another BIMM College in the UK or Berlin.

Such cutting-edge facilities can be expensive, but we make sure all BIMM courses are great value for money and offer qualifying students a variety of financial support initiatives like bursaries and scholarships – representing a practical and affordable investment for your future career in the music industry.

All BIMM three-year undergraduate degree courses are priced at £9,250 for UK and EU students.

Fees Status

Your tuition fee charge will depend on whether you’re classified as a student from ‘Home/EU’, ‘Channel Islands and Isle of Man’ or ‘Overseas’. These classification rules are strictly determined by the UK Government.

Please see the definitions of fee status classifications below:

  • ‘Home/ EU’: Given to students settled and ordinarily resident in the UK. Also given to EU nationals who have been living in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or British Overseas Territories for three years prior to the course start date.
  • ‘Channel Islands and Isle of Man’: Given to students who are from the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (British Isles, but outside the UK). They are charged the Home/ EU rate.
  • ‘Overseas’: Given to students from other countries (exceptions include students temporarily outside the UK/EU, those with UK Government refugee status and migrant workers).

Please note that students who are from countries within the European Economic Area (EEA) and not from a country formally within the European Union (EU) will not be eligible for the UK and EU fee. They will be asked to pay the Non-EU fee.

Applicants with UK or other EU nationality should note that such nationality does not guarantee they’ll be classed as a ‘Home/ EU’ student. Various residence requirements must be satisfied.

If your fee status classification is unclear, you’ll be sent a questionnaire to complete so your status can be determined.

Student finance is available to eligible students for all BIMM undergraduate degree courses. Tuition Fee Loans will cover the full course fee and Maintenance Loans are available to eligible UK students to help with living costs while studying.*

Student Loans

We’re continually committed to ensuring the best value music education possible. In fact, we’ve recently registered with the Office for Students (OfS) – the new regulator of all Higher Education Institutions in the UK.

This has several implications for our institution and in particular affects the loans that students at BIMM Institute and in the UK can receive in respect of their tuition fee.

This means that BIMM Institute students can now apply for a student loan to cover the full amount of their tuition fee (£9,250). Previously, the maximum loan available was £6,165.

You can find out more information on the guidelines and how to apply for a student loan at www.slc.co.uk.

*All fees quoted apply to the 2020/21 academic year only, are on a per annum basis and may be subject to change.

Students from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales should select the appropriate link for finance:

Northern Ireland: studentfinanceni.co.uk

Scotland: saas.gov.uk

Wales: studentfinancewales.co.uk

EU students may be able to get a student loan to cover tuition costs. If you’re an EU student, information on how to apply can be found at: direct.gov.uk/studentfinance (please select ’students from other EU countries’).

If you are an EU student applying to our UK colleges, see our update on Brexit.
