BIMM Commended by QAA
BIMM is delighted to announce the fantastic news that we have been commended by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) – the independent body entrusted with monitoring standards in Higher Education in England – for the quality of learning opportunities offered to students in our colleges in Brighton, Bristol, London and Manchester, following a Higher Education Review (HER).
After a review of the four UK-based BIMM colleges in January by the HER team, today marks the publication of the review findings. Overall, the report confirms that the maintenance of the academic standards of the awards offered by BIMM on behalf of its degree-awarding bodies meets UK expectations, and that the quality of the student learning opportunities at BIMM are commended. It also confirms that the quality of BIMM’s information about learning opportunities meets UK expectations, as does the enhancement of BIMM’s student learning opportunities.
Beyond this, the report highlights a number of areas of good practice that the review team considers make a positive contribution to the learning experiences of UK BIMM students, including:
- The use of music industry professionals in providing Masterclasses, guest lectures, mentoring and careers advice to support student learning.
- The engagement of staff at all levels in the preparation and consideration of annual monitoring reports.
- The extensive use of music industry practitioners in programme design and development.
- The diversity of work placement opportunities, supported by highly informative guidance in handbooks for staff, students and employers.
Although thrilled that the hard work undertaken by all at BIMM has been recognised to such an extent, these positive affirmations by the QAA don’t come as a surprise to Group Managing Director, Adam Carswell:
“BIMM has an unrivalled market position in the provision of contemporary music higher education, with colleges in cities with vibrant, local music industries. These carefully selected locations, coupled with the BIMM network extending across Europe, provide students with the very best prospects of a sustainable career in the music and broader creative industries.”
Here at BIMM, we’d like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of our hugely talented lecturers and staff members for helping us to achieve this impressive outcome. BIMM is only as good as its people… and thankfully for us, we’ve got the best in the business!
