BIMM Institute London launches diversity scholarship for 2022-23

12 May, 2022

BIMM Institute London’s scholarship to support people from Black, Asian and Ethnically diverse groups in low-income households has returned. The Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse Scholarship will provide tuition fee support for six students across all BIMM diploma and degree courses for their duration of study.

In the UK, Black, Asian and ethnically diverse musicians, songwriters and music producers are currently underrepresented in the London music sector and academic professional posts (UK Music Diversity Music Industry Workforce 2018 & 2020 Reports). BIMM Institute London is committed to widening participation and encouraging diversity in its student body to nurture the next generation of creatives and academics.

At both diploma and degree levels, the scholarships will be awarded on merit and UK-based applicants from low-income households (below £25,000), providing tuition fee support for the length of study.

Scholarship applicants must submit a portfolio to evidence their ability within a chosen subject specialism. The portfolio will be evaluated by a panel including three members of the BIMM academic faculty and an external industry professional. The panel will be chaired by college principal Simon Colam, who had this to add about the scholarship:

“It has been our privilege to award scholarships over the past two years to students who are now making the very most of their course and the wider BIMM experience. We continue in our commitment to widening access to music education to a new generation of creatives, writers and entrepreneurs through our Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse Scholarship Programme for 2022-23. Our college team is here to support our applicants throughout the process of auditioning for a course and applying for a scholarship so don’t hesitate to contact us.”

The deadline for submitting applications is 10am on 23 July 2022.
