Back to School Former Students The Kooks Visit BIMM Brighton
It doesn’t matter which of our students it is, or what area of the music industry they move into, we are always proud when they achieve their ambition after leaving BIMM – it shows that the hard work has all been worth it.
We also love it when our alumni return to share their experiences with our students – and everyone at BIMM Brighton was bursting with pride on Friday when Luke Pritchard and Hugh Harris of The Kooks dropped back into the college where they first met.
The Kooks are one of BIMM’s biggest and earliest student success stories, leaving BIMM Brighton to wide international acclaim – gathering MTV Awards, BRIT nominations, Number 1 records, and millions of album sales on the way.
The band took time out during their tour to take part in a Q&A session in BIMM Brighton’s dedicated live room to a packed-out crowd of students, keen to hear their stories and advice.
Lead singer Luke Pritchard has very fond memories of BIMM and credits the college with helping set him and the band on the road to success, saying;
“BIMM was really cool because of the freedom and meeting with other musicians… putting a band together was encouraged both inside and outside of the college.”
Hosted by BIMM’s senior academic lecturer Jon Stewart, he and the Brighton students quizzed them on their career, the realities of life in the music industry and, of course, their memories of life at BIMM Brighton.
The students really enjoyed the day, and Jon did too:
“We’ve had some amazing guests at BIMM, but I’ve never been more proud to interview The Kooks. Great questions from the students and brilliant answers from the guys.”
The students asked some thoughtful and interesting questions, and the duo answered honestly and frankly, allowing all in attendance a unique and invaluable glimpse into the music business from the perspective of a high-profile, hard-working band.
We are big believers in getting the best and most experienced artists into BIMM Brighton so that our students can get it straight from the people who have done it for real – and, by welcoming these particular ex-students back, we were able to show our smart students exactly where their hard work can take them!
