- Professor Mark Irwin (academic leadership pathway)
- Associate Professor Andrew McKinney (creative arts practice pathway)
Becoming a BIMM Institute Professor
“I have dreamed of being a Professor of Popular Music since I was 18 years old.”
– Professor Jennifer Otter Bickerdike.
Upon receiving the new title, Professor Jennifer Otter Bikerdike said: “I have dreamed of being a Professor of Popular Music since I was 18 years old. I am beyond honoured and thrilled to now be among the first group of academics to hold this title at BIMM Institute. I am so proud to be a part of this institution and can not wait to see what the future holds for our colleges.”
“It’s in keeping with BIMM’s ethos to honour academic, creative and leadership achievements.”
– Professor Nick Donovan.
Professor Nick Donovan added: “It is a huge honour to be among the first recipients of a professorial role and title at BIMM Institute. Having been part of conversations over the years where we’d dreamed of being able to award such honours, now being in the position to apply and receive the role feels very special.
“It’s in keeping with BIMM’s ethos to honour academic, creative and leadership achievements throughout courses and team structures and being awarded a professorship in creative practice and music feels very special indeed.”
“It is a significant achievement for BIMM Institute.”
–Andrew Bates, BIMM Institute Academic Director and Provost.
In 2019, we expanded our colleges across Europe by opening BIMM Institute Hamburg and were granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers in the UK by an Order from the Privy Council, meaning we can award our own undergraduate and postgraduate courses. As Andrew Bates, BIMM Institute Academic Director and Provost told us, these titles are a fantastic next step in BIMM Institute’s growth: “The conferment of our first professorships and associate professorships represents a key milestone in BIMM Institute’s growth and development as a Higher Education provider, and on a personal level, it is one of the highlights of my time at BIMM.
“It is a significant achievement for BIMM Institute to have reached the position whereby we can confer professorial titles with confidence and integrity on such deserving colleagues, and I am sure you will join me in congratulating Jennifer, Nick, Mark, and Andrew on their success.”
