BIMM Birmingham hosts its first festival
BIMM Birmingham recently hosted its own festival, bringing together students from BIMM Music Institute, Performers College and MetFilm School.
Held across both Digbeth campuses, BIMM Backyard transformed our creative spaces into a vibrant festival venue, with live music, film screenings, theatre showcases, workshops, and DJ sets taking place throughout the day. The event allowed students to experience the breadth of creative work happening across the university, while connecting with fellow artists, performers, and filmmakers.
The entire programme was created or presented by BIMM Birmingham students, showcasing the incredible talent developing across our schools. Live performances came from artists including Kitty Bella, Zero Sun, Jazzcat, Project Laika and Seafront, while the screening room showed student films including: An Ode to Friendship, Memory for Sale, Fade to Black, and Is Anyone There?
The theatre programme included acting, voice and dance showcases, alongside graduate films from the Acting cohort. Elsewhere, visitors explored production design displays, took part in creative workshops, enjoyed DJ sets, and sampled food and drink from our vendors, creating a true festival atmosphere.
More than just a showcase, the festival gave students the opportunity to share their work with the wider BIMM Birmingham community and experience the range of creative practice taking place across the three schools. It also highlighted the power of collaboration across music, performance and film, giving students the chance to share ideas, celebrate each other’s work and gain valuable experience presenting to a live audience.
Following a hugely successful first event, BIMM Backyard has already established itself as a highlight of the academic calendar, and we’re excited to see it return even bigger in 2027.
