Phil Nelson

Principal Lecturer, MA Popular Music Practice

Phil is a lecturer for BIMM Institue Brighton's postgraduate MA degree in Popular Music Practice. He is a master of the music business, having been an artist manager for 25 years, working with acts such as The Levellers (Glastonbury Headliner, Platinum album), Longpigs (Brit Award Nominee), Aqualung (Grammy Award), Sweet Billy Pilgrim (Mercury Prize nomination) and Duke Special (Platinum album).

He was one of three people who founded The Great Escape festival and was Vice Chairman of the Music Managers Forum for eight years. Phil helped The Levellers set up the Metway music complex in Brighton and Beautiful Days festival in Devon, as well as achieving one platinum and six gold albums.

Phil is also in the process of setting up regional Music Offices for the UK. At Bimm he has set up a Student-run record label, run the first of what will be many Student-facing conferences, and runs an Education conference at The Great Escape with Chris Cooke of CMU.
