Adapting to Change and Innovations in the Music Industry
01 Jun 2021
Hosted by Jörg Tresp and Joe Sparrow, lecturers on the BA (Hons) Music Business course at BIMM Institute Hamburg and Berlin, this webinar gives you an insight into the adaption of changes and innovations in the Music Industry.
The Music Industry is developing constantly and the ways we create and consume music are re-shaping. In this session, Jörg and Joe will initially discuss AI and how technological developments will make the role of artist developers (A&R) different in the near future, and the new opportunities this presents to artists and songwriters. Additionally, the panel will discuss the growing popularity of genre-less playlists on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, and how music industry marketing adapts to this for the artists and genres they represent.
As a writer and broadcaster for the music industry news, research and analysis service Music Ally, Joe Sparrow has extensive experience and a network of connections in the worlds of online music discovery, music-tech platforms, and online artist services.
Jörg Tresp is passionate about artist development and has been running his own label DevilDuck Records for 16 years, and amongst others previously worked for Warner Music Germany as their head of Rock/ Alternative.
In this webinar they discuss the following questions:
- What is A&R and what role does it historically play in the music industry?
- And, how will AI influence A&R decisions today and in the future?
- How is music marketed to fans in terms of genre – in playlists, by labels and elsewhere?
- Young consumers these days are listening to nearly all kinds of genres but our marketing is still based on genres – how does it work in the future?
The webinar will last 1 hour and 30mins with 30mins on each topic with a 15 mins Q&A section after each topic, so you leave with no questions unanswered.
The session will be hosted on Zoom, held in English-language and starts at 18:00 CET (German time).
