Top 5 Music Production Masterclasses at BIMM Institute Berlin

16 April, 2020

Every Friday, we bring some of the most amazing people in the music industry directly to our students as part of our regular Masterclass sessions. Here’s a recap of some of the Music Production Masterclass highlights from the past academic year.

1) Juan Atkins

Juan Atkins visiting BIMM Institute

None other than ‘The Originator of Techno Music’, Juan Atkins visited BIMM Institute Berlin for an exclusive Masterclass. The legendary musician and DJ from Detroit spoke about his personal relationship and experiences with sound, showing the importance of music and sound in life and how sound, sound waves, frequencies, and vibrations affect the human mind, body and soul.

The inestimable influence of Juan Atkins has been at the very heart of electronic dance music from its earliest days, which is why we were more than thrilled to host such an iconic guest.

2) Jazzanova Recording Studio Tour

Inside the Jazzanova Recording Studio

The Jazzanova Recording Studio is one of the most remarkable new recording venues in Berlin. Owner Axel Reinemer, who launched the studio in 2013, took ten lucky BIMM students on a tour through his beautiful space. In addition to working as a recording and mixing engineer and producer, Reinemer is also a key member of the Jazzanova collective. After offering the students a glimpse into the history and technical set-up of JRS, the students were able to witness a track deconstruction from the recent Jazzanova album.

3) Modeselektor

Legendary Berlin techno-duo and award-winning producers, Modeselektor, joined BIMM Institute Berlin for a very special Masterclass. Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, a.k.a. Modeselektor, opened up about their early years setting up infamous rave parties, why they started recording music and how their recording process differs from playing live.

4) PLANNINGTOROCK

PLANNINGTOROCK visiting BIMM Institute for a Masterclass

BIMM Berlin students were treated to a Masterclass with the ever-inspiring PLANNINGTOROCK. Since their first album was released back in 2006, the celebrated dance producer has expressed their political ideals, turning complex topics into pop hooks. In an exclusive Q&A, PLANNINGTOROCK discussed growing up through music and art, as well as the production process of their new Powerhouse live show, which premiered in Berghain/Panorama Bar only the week after visiting BIMM Institute!

5) ADAM Audio Masterclass with Jane Arnison

Jane Arnison leads an ADAM Audio Masterclass

ADAM Audio monitors have earned a worldwide reputation as the pre-eminent tool for sound engineers. ADAM Audio Product Specialist Jane Arnison, who collaborated with inspiring musicians and artists including Peaches, Berlin hero MIKEY, Canada’s Austra and Berghain residents Steffi & Virginia, hosted an exclusive Masterclass to give some valuable insights into monitor speakers using ADAM Audio’s range of products. She helped our young producers understand what speakers are appropriate for different environments and applications.

Despite the current challenges we are all facing, we’re still dedicated to creating a rich programme of events. We are currently delivering all Masterclasses digitally, bringing them directly to your home.

We are delighted to announce that our first live online Masterclass will take place Friday, April 17th with producer/mixer Marta Salogni. This Q&A will be hosted by BIMM Berlin’s Head of Music Production Jane Arnison.
