Life After BIMM Dublin

One of the most exciting things for us, is to see where our Alumni end up after their time here at BIMM. Success from former students across BIMM colleges is inspiring, with the likes of George Ezra and Ella Mai having studied our colleges.

But success can be measured in many ways, so we caught up with some of our former students to see where life after BIMM has taken them.

Seán Behan

Sen Behan

Seán Behan is a 22-year-old songwriter, producer, MD and BIMM graduate from Dublin. After spending some time working in the multi Grammy-Winning NYC based studio Engine Room Audio, Seán began working alongside electropop artist LAOISE. With a co-writer and co-producer title on all of LAOISE’s releases, his work has been met with much critical acclaim from press like Buzzfeed, The 405, The Line of Best Fit, Nialler9, UK Independent, NPR and more. Seán saw himself nominated for Song of the Year at the RTE Choice Music Prize for his work LAOISE’s 2018 single ‘Again’.

Through his Dublin based studio ‘A Place Called Kai’, he has also worked with many other talented names in the Irish music industry, including Hare Squead, Erica Cody, Ailbhe Reddy, Aimée, Maria Kelly and Tim Chadwick to name a few.

Laura Whyte

Laura Whye

Laura graduated from BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern Music – Songwriting in 2016 and then went to study her Masters in Music Therapy at University of Limerick, graduating in 2019. Her passion is music therapy in the field of adolescent mental health but has worked in a number of different areas from rehabilitation settings to mainstream schools. Currently she is working with Music Generation running music therapy for mental health groups in mainstream secondary school.

Ema Stapleton

Ema Stapleton

After graduating BIMM Dublin in 2017 Ema went on to study an MA in Popular Music Research at Goldsmiths College, University of London. She is now a guest lecturer in BIMM, a freelance writer for various blogs, a receptionist in Waltons New School of Music, and an aspiring composer for moving image. She was also the assistant manager for the Mother Tongues festival in March this year.

Colin Lyons

Colin Lyons

Colin is currently working as a session Drummer, and has worked with the likes of Áine Cahill, Sean and Conor Price, Lilla Vargen and Josh Gray. When he’s not working as a session musician, he also has a keen interest in social media.

Catherine Smyth

Catherine Smyth

Having graduated from BIMM Dublin in 2016, Cat went on to obtain a MSc Music, Mind and Brain from Goldsmiths, University of London. While studying for her masters, Cat also worked in a creative sound branding start-up, Soundscape, as a music psychology researcher and within the company’s music publishing arm. Currently, she works in Operations at the Official Charts, focusing on what qualifies for the UK and Irish chart, while also freelancing with music psychology projects and research.

Conor King

Conor King

Conor is a session bass player based in Dublin. He has played at festivals and venues across Ireland and Europe such as with a number varied of Irish acts. Playing with these artists has led Conor to make appearances on TV and radio, resulting in an amp endorsement from EBS Sweden Alongside a love for playing live, Conor also has a keen interest in the music industry and self promotion as a session musician via social media.
