George Ezra

George joined BIMM Bristol in October 2011 to study Songwriting – and was signed to Columbia Records less than a year later. His rapid rise to major-label recognition came as no surprise to BIMM staff, who recognised his unique bluesy voice and gifted songwriting early on.

Since signing his record deal, George’s star has continued to rise. He agreed a publishing deal with BMG/Chrysalis, and was championed by BBC Introducing, playing on their stage at Glastonbury 2013, just before his debut EP ‘Did You Hear The Rain?’ was released. In early 2014, George placed fifth in the BBC Sound of 2014 poll and toured the UK for two months, before heading to Europe just as his song ‘Budapest’ had gone Top 10 on iTunes in 15 countries and reached No. 1 in Austria, Czech Republic and New Zealand.

In June 2014, George played an incredible set on the John Peel stage at Glastonbury, and his single ‘Budapest’ debuted at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart, selling over 400,000 copies in the UK alone. His debut album ‘Wanted On Voyage’ was released to critical and commercial acclaim, reaching No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart and attaining Gold certification for selling over 100,000 copies. One thing’s for certain – George’s journey has only just begun and we look forward to hearing more about his musical success in the future.

2015 saw George nominated for an astonishing four BRIT Awards– British Breakthrough Act, Album Of The Year, Single Of The Year (for ‘Budapest’) and Male Solo Artist.  George gave a brilliant performance of his single 'Budapest' at the BRIT Awards to a packed crowd at the O2 arena in London.

On 12 February 2018, Ezra released the first episode of his podcast George Ezra & Friends. The series began with guest Ed Sheeran on 12 February 2018. Ezra's inspiration for the podcast was listening to other podcasts featuring "comedians chatting with other comedians".

Subsequent guests included Rag'n'Bone Man, Hannah Reid, Craig David, Ben Thatcher, Giles Martin, Declan McKenna, Jessie Ware, Justin Young, Sam Smith, Lily Allen and Sir Elton John. The second series began on 19 November 2018 with guest Niall Horan. Subsequent guests for Series Two were Ellie Goulding, Laurie Vincent, Sigrid, Olly Alexander, Nile Rodgers, Leif Vollebekk, Sir Tom Jones, Lewis Capaldi and Shania Twain.

Ezra’s sophomore album, Staying at Tamara's, was released on 23 March 2018. Ezra finished touring Staying at Tamara's with two performances at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He hinted at the possibility of a new album.

Since its release in 2014, the video for Ezra’s single “Budapest” has amassed a ridiculous 193 million views on YouTube. The single also boasts a modest 670 million streams on Spotify.
