BIMM Dublin grads The Murder Capital are No.1 on the Irish Album Charts

1 February, 2023

Irish five-piece and BIMM graduates, The Murder Capital have reached No.1 on the Irish Album Charts and No.16 on the UK Album Charts.

In the process of reaching the No.1 spot, Gigi’s Recovery managed to dethrone Taylor Swift’s Midnights, as well as stepping ahead of Dermot Kennedy’s former No.1 Sonder and SZA’s SOS. This is a historic moment for The Murder Capital, whose previous highest was their 2019 album When I Have Fears, which finished No.2 in Ireland and No.18 in the UK.

Alongside the No.1 album, the band have also recently scored a prestigious five-star review from The Guardian UK.

Posting on Instagram, the band said, “You’ve given us OUR FIRST NUMBER 1 with Gigi’s Recovery. Thank you to everyone who went out and got the record, and thanks to everyone on our team. Gigi is 16 in the UK charts, our highest position yet. You legends! What a journey making Gigi has been, and we’re only at the beginning. See you all at our biggest show yet. Love ye x.”

Produced by Grammy Award-winning record producer, engineer, mixer, writer and musician John Congleton, the album was released via Human Season Records. Gigi’s Recovery is by far the band’s most experimental work, with electronic elements littered throughout, working harmoniously with industrial influences and bold sounds.

If you’re local, make sure you buy a ticket for their Dublin Vicar Street show on 26 February.

BIMM Dublin principal Alan Cullivan added:

“More good news from our BIMM Dublin graduates. It’s amazing to think that for the second time in such a short period, following on from Fontaines D.C., The Murder Capital, are having huge success and critical acclaim. To observe a band meet, create and develop in the college and then for them to explode nationally and internationally is such an honour to behold, regardless of how many times we see it. Having said that, the real success here is the band’s level of creativity in this album, their vision and their willingness to take risks. On top of this, it’s only the start for them, I just can’t wait to see what they do next.”
