BIMM Bristol celebrates new building with opening party

11 October, 2022

We had an absolute hoot at BIMM Bristol’s Moon Street building opening party. The new space is already an awe-inspiring hub for artistic expression, so we were more than grateful to be part of its opening celebration.

And what a celebration it was. With a drinks reception, DJ and synthesiser workshops, fun in the green screen room, live student performances and a guided tour from our very own BIMM Bristol Principal, Hannah Phipps. Hannah played a massive role in the development of the building and the design, which prides itself on being clean, contemporary and industrial and using natural materials.

“This project means more to us than just bricks and mortar. BIMM Moon Street is not only designed for learning but also engineered for sound, joy, creativity and connection. We’re very proud of our new home and look forward to a great year ahead, making lots of noise!”

The party saw some fantastic student performances, from DJs Insidia and Solstice to live performances. El Knight, whose trip-hop and downtempo sound was a great way to start the evening. The New Cut shone with their live expertise and professionalism and played a sterling set, including a stand-out favourite, ‘Steven Gerrard is my Dad’. Mercy’s Cartel rounded things off with a high-energy performance and on-stage banter that made it difficult not to boogie.

“Our design and construction team, The Studio People, listened to our brief and exceeded our expectations. We are particularly excited about our industry-standard recording studios, our green screen studio and the dazzling atrium performance venue. These resources have the potential to open doors to new industry opportunities for our students and the wider community too.”

Aside from our two industry-standard recording studios, green screen studio and atrium performance venue, the new flagship BIMM building houses:

  • A creative media suite with a professional lighting rig
  • Mac labs and study spaces
  • A second high-specification performance space
  • A glass DJ performance booth
  • Room for students to exhibit their art and sound installations
  • Vinyl listening area
  • A café-bar

The new building’s proximity to BIMM King Square will help us develop a more substantial presence in the Stokes Croft area and allow us to immerse our students in the fantastic venues, independent shops and culture of Bristol. Having outgrown our Passage Street campus, we’ve taken this opportunity to re-imagine how our college spaces should look, feel and function, with our students’ experience at the forefront of the design.
