BIMM brings the Moon Stage to life at Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2025
Last weekend, BIMM joined forces with Team Love Productions to run the Moon Stage at the annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.
The festival is a joyous three-day celebration of ballooning, music, and community held at Ashton Court. The festival is free to attend and drew over 300,000 visitors across 8 – 10 August. Attendees were treated to spectacular mass ascents, night-glows, and live music curated by BIMM Bristol and Team Love.
The Moon Stage was a vibrant oasis nestled among the rolling launch field hills. From midday each day, performances from BIMM students, alumni, and emerging artists from the Team Love roster provided the perfect soundtrack to hot daytime ascents and magical balloon-lit evenings. Festival-goers relaxed on the lawns, enjoying live music as balloons floated overhead.
Liana, who recently completed our Masters in Popular Music Practice, was among the standout performers.
“Playing here at the Balloon Fiesta was really fun! I could see my friends smiling, which made me feel like the crowd was enjoying it too. Studying at BIMM gave me the space to experiment with different genres, which has shaped the music I make now,”
Another highlight came from Emelina Murphy, who performed a lively half-hour set with her band.
“It was amazing to bring our music to the Moon Stage. We had a half-hour set and it was really, really good! The opportunity came via BIMM Connect, which was great. My advice to new artists is to just give it a go – even if you make something you think is rubbish, it’s all part of the process and how you learn,” she said.
This year’s Balloon Fiesta offered an unforgettable fusion of sights, sounds, and community spirit. With music, colour, and creativity in full flight, this year’s Moon Stage showed that Bristol’s local talent is just as impressive as the balloons overhead.
