11 April, 2018

Two BIMM alumnus from our 2017 cohort have received nominations for this years Outstanding MAP Graduate Contribution to Music Award. The annual prize, which is presented by UK Music, recognises the work of post-graduates for their outstanding contribution to the music industry.

Nominations for the award are open to young professionals who have studied in one of UK Music‘s recognised MAP institutions, and have since gone on to excel in various sectors of the music industry, including research, recording, performance, business, community and more.

Eligibility is judged by UK Music’s Skills Programme Board on various elements of the candidate’s professional life, including their university career, their career following graduation and their potential to make a positive impact on the music industry in future.

Featuring on this years’ shortlist are BIMM Brighton alumnus Anton Magnusson and BIMM London alumnus Jamie Skinner, along with five other hopefuls from various other music education institutes throughout England.

After completing a BA (Hons) Degree in Music Business in 2017, Anton made fantastic progress in securing a role as Marketing Coordinator at the internationally renowned Domino Recording Company, London. Prior to this, he completed industry work placements with The Unity Agency and Playground Music before finding a full-time position as a Music Scout for the award winning Clintons Law Practice. Soon afterward, he interned at Young Turks, XL and 4AD – arguably some of the most reputable independent labels in the country – before playing a key role in the setting up of Brighton-based record label Pool Valley Recordings.

Jamie also graduated from BIMM in 2017, and alongside his final year he began working in PR at LD Communications. Having started out as an intern, he demonstrated a natural ability and began securing press coverage for some of the company’s top clients before being offered a full-time role two months later. Now, he has truly embedded himself in the company, working with an impressive roster of clients, from Pink Floyd’s recent exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum – London, to live events such as Boardmasters Festival, and tours with Live Nation, AEG and many more.

Leo Nicholas, BIMM London’s head of Industry Liaison and Careers, has this to say about Jamie’s recent award nomination.

“Congratulations to Jamie on his well-earned nomination for Outstanding Graduate at the MAP Awards. We’re extremely proud to have played a part in helping Jamie get a foot in the door in the industry at LD Communications.”
