Simon Carter
Senior Lecturer, Live Performance and Musical Direction *
Simon is a graduate of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and has a degree in Music from Kingston University and a postgraduate diploma in Jazz from the Guildhall College of Music. He’s a musical director and keyboard player of international renown, and has travelled the world touring with artists such as Jamiroquai, Craig David, Leo Sayer and Nik Kershaw.
He was also a member of The Dire Straits Experience from 2016 to 2018, which led to several sold out tours throughout Europe and countries further afield such as Australia, New Zealand, India and Israel.
His vast experience has also included working in West End theatre where he was the associate musical director for shows such as Rent, Smokey Joe’s Café and Five Guys Named Moe. As a freelance session musician, Simon has played with a huge variety of artists, including Anastasia, Deepest Blue, The Divine Comedy, Atomic Kitten, Rick Astley, 10CC, Corinne Bailey Rae and Rooster.
Simon has also played with a number of international jazz artists, including acid jazz and hip hop guitarist Ronny Jordan, plus a host of visiting American smooth jazz stars such as Marc Antoine, Mindi Abair and Vincent Ingala. He’s also run one of the most successful weekly jazz gigs in London for over 25 years.
