Patrick Duff

Songwriting Lecturer

Patrick teaches Songwriting at BIMM Institute Bristol. He was born in Bristol, and after dropping out of school and spending time as a street busker, he became the lead singer of the alternative rock band Strangelove, who were signed to Parlophone/EMI. The band released three albums between 1991-1998, achieving three Top 40 singles in the UK charts.

John Peel witnessed them from the side of the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival and immediately invited them into BBC Maida Vale studios for a live session – the first of two Peel sessions the band would do. Patrick toured the UK and the wider world extensively with likes of Radiohead, Suede and The Manic Street Preachers. After Strangelove disbanded, Patrick lived alone in the heart of the forest for two years, before continuing life as a solo artist. He has toured the world with WOMAD, collaborated with veteran African master storyteller and musician, Madosini, been commissioned by Bristol City Council to write a choral piece, and has released six solo albums.
