Understanding Clearing
Clearing is the process universities use to fill any remaining course places. You can apply via Clearing if you:
- Didn’t receive any offers (or don’t want to accept the one you have)
- Didn’t meet the conditions of your offer
- Declined your place via UCAS Hub
- Are applying after the main application cycle has ended
How Clearing works
If you already have your exam results, and you did not submit a UCAS application during the main cycle, you can use Clearing.
If you had conditional offers but didn’t achieve the grades you needed, you can use Clearing from Results Day, when universities and colleges publish their available places on the UCAS website. You will be able to add a choice later that day once the system opens.

You can browse available BIMM Music Institute courses using the UCAS course search tool to find places still open through Clearing.
Clearing FAQs
If you received your exam results and did not apply through UCAS in the main cycle, you can use Clearing. Here are the steps you must follow:
- Make a UCAS application and obtain your clearing number.
- Call the admissions team at BIMM Music Institute on 01273 840 346. Have your Clearing and UCAS ID numbers ready so we can check course availability.
- We’ll then invite you to an audition or interview via Zoom and advise you to add BIMM Music Institute as your Clearing choice on UCAS Hub.
- If you’re successful, we’ll offer you an unconditional place, which will be instantly confirmed.
If you have had conditional offers, but your exam results have not been quite what you were expecting, you can use Clearing.
Keep an eye on your UCAS Hub, and if you become eligible to use Clearing, an “Add a Clearing choice” button will become available in the “Your Choices” section.
Here is what you will need to do:
- Obtain your Clearing Number
- Call BIMM Music Institute on 01273 840 346 to provide your Clearing and ID Numbers and check there are places available on your desired course.
- We’ll then invite you to an audition or interview via Zoom and advise you to add BIMM Music Institute as your Clearing choice on UCAS Hub.
- Submit your UCAS application. If you’re successful, we’ll offer you an unconditional place, which will be instantly confirmed.
All Clearing places are offered as unconditional acceptances.
This means there are no provisional offers. To secure your place, you must meet any necessary academic requirements and successfully complete an audition or interview. Once both are confirmed, your place will be officially accepted.
If you’ve had conditional offers but your exam results didn’t quite go according to plan, you can use Clearing on Results Day, when universities and colleges place a list of their vacancies on the UCAS website.
