At BIMM Bristol, you don’t just study music – you live it. Our campus is built to give you professional tools, creative freedom, and industry experience.

BIMM Bristol opened its doors in 2008, right in the heart of this vibrant West Country city. With regular opportunities to perform at iconic venues like The Fleece, Rough Trade and Thekla, you’ll be stepping onto the same stages as the artists who inspire you when you choose to study in Bristol.

Our facilities include:

  • Professional recording studios (three live rooms, two vocal booths featuring SSL Origin and Audient analogue consoles)
  • Industry-standard microphones
  • Instruments
  • Outboard gear.

There are also specialist spaces such as a green screen room and a dedicated synth production room, as well as Mac suites and bookable edit suites equipped with the latest software.

BIMM Bristol boasts impressive interconnectivity on campus, with every space interlinked with both direct visual SDI and audio connection, allowing versatility of use of space for recording sessions, rehearsals and events

BIMM Moon Street Campus facilities recording and production

We have two high-spec live rooms designed for rehearsals and showcases, equipped with professional systems from Martin Audio, Midas and Allen & Heath.

Full ChamSys lighting control supports hands-on live production training. At the same time, a large library of bookable equipment is available, including vintage microphones and pedals, as well as cameras and video gear from Canon, Blackmagic and GoPro.

The Atrium is where everything comes together. With a capacity of over 300 and technical spec on par with major festival stages, it’s a fully equipped, multi-use venue built for gigs, rehearsals, workshops and student-run events.

Industry masterclasses

Throughout the year, the campus hosts exclusive masterclasses and workshops led by celebrated musicians, producers, and industry leaders. Recent guests include Afrobeat innovator Dele Sosimi, hip-hop pioneer KRS-One, jazz virtuoso Tom Ollendorff, Beyoncé’s musical director Divinity Roxx and breakthrough UK artist Eliza Rose – giving you direct access to real industry expertise and creative inspiration.

Student-led events

With a fully licensed bar and café, the Atrium is regularly transformed for club nights, multi-genre showcases, experimental performances and more. You’ll be able to curate your own events from concept to execution, gaining hands-on experience in a professional setting.

We have two purpose-built performance spaces equipped with professional PA systems and mixing desks, alongside a full backline from leading brands such as Marshall, Fender, Ampeg, Roland and Nord. These spaces are ideal for band rehearsals, live sound training, as well as showcases and assessments.

George Ezra studied Songwriting at BIMM Bristol before finding fame with his smash-hit single ‘Budapest’.

We offer fully equipped, bookable rehearsal spaces throughout the week, including weekends, making them ideal for solo practice, band work or assessment preparation. These spaces are designed to a high live room specification, for brilliant acoustics and clarity of sound. 

Pirate Studios Bristol

Our Bristol campus offers three industry-standard studios, including two equipped with SSL Origin consoles and one featuring an Audient ASP 8024HE, alongside outboard gear from leading industry brands. Each studio is fitted with Mac systems running Logic Pro, Pro Tools and Ableton Live, and is designed to support recording, mixing, production and sound design.

Thekla in Bristol

BIMM Music Institute Bristol gigs are regularly held aboard the iconic Thekla: an award-winning converted German cargo ship moored in Bristol Harbour. As a first-year student, you’ll be given a tour of the city by boat during induction week. 

We have a variety of edit suites and vocal booths designed for focused production work, equipped with iMacs running industry-standard audio and video software. The linked vocal booths are ideal for vocal recording, solo instruments, as well as foley and pre-production work.

We have three open-access Mac Suites, each fully equipped with creative software, including: Logic, Ableton, Pro Tool, Wise, and Adobe Suite. These are ideal for music production, video editing, artwork creation, and independent study.
