Strawman & The Jackdaws receive high praise for their debut EP

18 February, 2021

Strawman & The Jackdaws formed at BIMM Institute Dublin in 2017. Since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength; their debut EP F∇X has received high praise in their native Italy and topped the Amazon Italia’s best-selling albums chart in the week that it was released.

The band consists of Riccardo Ranzani (Songwriting), Michael Reolon (Drums) and Jacopo Stofler (Guitar), who all met in their first year at BIMM Institute Dublin. The band started playing together at the very first Live and Lyrical in September 2017. Keyboardist and saxophonist Rory Fleming also joined the group.

Along with their success in Amazon Italia’s albums chart, they have been nominated as Brainstorming Magazine’s Album of the Month’, received praise from US blog Listen to Discover and featured in an RTE interview. The group has also received airtime from stations in their native Italy, as well as the USA, Australia and Germany.

What to expect from their debut EP: F∇X

F∇X is a bold opening statement from the band. It was recorded at Flaked Studio with Adam Redmond, Terzo Mondo Studio with Giampaolo Rossi, and mastered by Robin Schmidt. The tape plays around with joyful and upbeat tones whilst exploring eclectic harmonies and themes, including the experience of travelling and playing into the group’s heavy ties to Italy.

The group’s amalgamation of energetic folk sounds with indie-pop melodies, distorted riffs and exciting live performances creates a pick n’ mix of influences and sounds – something that is true to their core. After performing on Irish, English and Italian stages, the band is booked for shows and festivals around Europe and Russia in 2021.

The official video for their single Field Of Wonders has just dropped, and you can check it out below:
