London Named World’s Best City For Students
London has topped a recent poll by higher education data analyst organisation QS as the world’s best student city. The survey, which took into account the views of 50,000 students worldwide, was undertaken by the same company which publishes the annual World University Rankings, and measured a range of factors important to students, including quality of life, desirability and student mix.
London scored particularly high for its wide variety of cultural activities and events, such as concerts, festivals, theatres, museums, cinemas and more, and here at BIMM, we can see why! These are elements which our BIMM London students benefit from every day through music industry opportunities like live performances at our End of Term Gigs, behind-the-scenes tours of world-class concert venues and recording studios, festival work experience placements and Masterclasses by some of the world’s top touring bands and musicians.
In the QS survey, London’s job market also impressed and it was seen as an especially good place to interact with employers and secure a job. This, too, is one of BIMM London’s strengths. We work hard to connect students to the music industry via our Careers Hub and offer ongoing music business opportunities such as work experience placements, Masterclasses, involvement in our commercial band programme, business and enterprise support, artist development and professional project assistance. In fact, we place so much emphasis on interacting with potential future employers in the music business that 82% of BIMM students are in employment six months after graduation, with 64% finding work through a network established at BIMM.
London also received a high ranking for the cultural diversity of its student population, with the UK capital seen as an international city which is tolerant and welcoming to students from both the UK and abroad. And BIMM London is a natural extension of this. We’re committed to promoting equal opportunities for all our students and actively seek to recruit a diverse student body that’s reflective of the wider community. We’re pleased to teach students from over 40 countries across Europe and the rest of the world because we believe it creates a more dynamic and creative learning environment. This is BIMM’s ethos – we’re proud to welcome students of all ages, races, colours, nationalities, ethnic origins, genders, sexual orientations, mental statuses, disabilities, religions and beliefs too.
So, when it comes to the results of the QS survey, here at BIMM London, we’re not surprised in the slightest. Why don’t you get in touch and see for yourself? We’d love to tell you all about our world-leading city!
