Institute Music Publishing sign BIMM Manchester graduate
Institute Music Publishing (IMP) is a boutique music company set up in 2021 to provide entry-level publishing administration services for student and graduate writers, producers and artists. We are delighted to announce that Irish songwriter and BIMM Manchester graduate, Solis, is the first artist to sign a deal.
Solis has become the first to pen a deal with Institute Music Publishing, along with band members and co-writers Andy, Jack and Max. The group were spotted through IMP’s unique A&R internship programme, where students are given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training through working in a music publishing environment.
Solis released her debut EP, Open, on 22 July through Someone Great/PIAS. It will be followed by a second EP later in the year.
After releasing her debut single in 2020 and two follow-ups under her belt last year, Solis has received a warm reception for her dreamy folk-tinted pop songs, gaining airplay on Stacey Copeland’s BBC Radio Manchester show.
Gigging with friends on the Mancunian music scene, Solis has honed her captivating stage presence with a string of live slots supporting the likes of Blossoms, Phoebe Green, Inhaler and Fuzzy Sun, as well as performing at intimate gigs with Sofar Sounds in both Manchester and Liverpool. Solis has also appeared at an assortment of festivals across the UK, including Kendal Calling, Liverpool Sound City and Dot to Dot.
Manchester Evening News said about Solis:
“Offering a distinctly northern take on gothic noir — think Anna Calvi meets Lana Del Rey meets post-industrial Manchester — she makes unrushed, elegiac songs that simmer with crepuscular unease.”
We can’t wait to hear what comes next from the student A&R interns working with Institute Music Publishing and the team working with them: the Someone Great CIC directors Damian Morgan, Mike Hosker and Jeff Thompson, music publishing experts Ellie Kading and Steve Farris and independent publishing company Sentric Music Group.
