BIMM Institute launches the Greenhouse Enterprise Programme
We work directly with the creative industries to provide exceptional industry experiences and support our students in achieving their dream careers in music – no matter what they may be. Improving this equality of opportunity for all is paramount to us. And it’s why we’ve launched our fantastic Greenhouse Enterprise Programme.
What is the Greenhouse Enterprise Programme?
Launching in June 2021, the Greenhouse Enterprise Programme provides training, coaching, and funding for entrepreneurial projects designed by students from underrepresented groups, including Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities; as well as students from lower-income backgrounds and areas of low participation in Higher Education; students with disabilities; care-leavers; and mature students. It’s the perfect partnership between our Access and Participation plan and our unrivalled Employability and Careers programme.
Kashi Chellen, our new Talent Co-ordinator for Inclusion and Diversity, will invite 20 enterprising students and alumni to join the programme. Working as part of BIMM’s Talent and Employability team, Kashi will identify students who have fantastic business ideas and enrol them on a programme of development that will help them realise their business potential.
Kashi is well-known to staff and students at BIMM Institute Brighton and is a graduate of the BA (Hons) Event Management degree. During her studies, Kashi was the President of the Student Association. In this role, she pursued her passion for creating safe and inclusive spaces for underrepresented groups within many areas of the music industry, including live events and work opportunities.
As a young woman of colour working her way through the music industry, Kashi is no stranger to facing challenges and has her eyes set on carving out a more diverse space where inclusivity is a priority. Kashi is passionate about creating work opportunities that give an authentic experience of the music industry and nurturing the business ideas of self-starters.
Once chosen, our Greenhouse entrepreneurs will take part in stage one of our programme: the Creative Business Essentials course run by the legendary Remi Harris MBE.
Training with Remi Harris Consulting
Students selected for our Greenhouse Enterprise Programme will participate in the Creative Business Essentials course, written and provided by Remi Harris, an award-winning trainer and business advisor to the Creative Industries. The course will cover all the essential elements our new entrepreneurs will need to know – from registering a business and building awareness to contracts, business bank accounts, taxes, collaborations, and values.
“Creative Business Essentials aims to demystify the things that new business owners can find a headache, including managing their finances, getting new business, and handling growth,” says Remi. “It has had great feedback from young creative entrepreneurs, and I’m excited to bring the training to the Greenhouse entrepreneurs from BIMM”.
Coaching with Creative United
After the 20 students have completed the course, they will join Creative United for exclusive one-to-one coaching sessions. Creative United has an extensive network of business coaches with experience in supporting the creative industries. They will help our students implement what they learned and put it into action – creating a plan for their business and getting it into the market.
Sarah Thirtle, Director of Business Support Programmes at Creative United told us: “Creative United is thrilled to be partnering with BIMM and Remi Harris to provide advice, coaching, and guidance to our future music industry business leaders.
“As a Community Interest Company, we strive to enable those in the creative and arts sectors to achieve their ambitions for growth and impact with their enterprises. We look forward to meeting the participants of the Greenhouse Enterprise Programme and helping them develop their skills, confidence and business plans.”
Funding with BIMM Institute
All entrepreneurs who complete the Greenhouse Enterprise Programme will receive funding from a fund BIMM has created, allocated by a panel of industry experts. The experts will be convened by Creative United and drawn from the world of funding and investment for the creative sector – all well-known names across the creative industries.
What happens next?
With the programme’s exclusive advice, guidance, and financial support under our students’ belts, they will have all they need to turn their business plan into reality. They will also have the opportunity to come back and inspire BIMM students and alumni through Masterclasses, mentoring, and promoting their business on the BIMM Connect business directory.
BIMM Connect is an exclusive social networking platform and directory that links BIMM students and alumni to career and industry opportunities. As a directory, it can help our Greenhouse Enterprise students continue to build their business brand awareness.
