BIMM donate to charitable foundation Last Night A DJ Saved My Life
BIMM Institute has already donated to the charitable foundation Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, which works in support of children in crisis. They will also be providing a range of musical instruments and equipment to support their initiative, Get Equipped.
Founded in January 2010, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life (LNADJ) uses innovative campaigns and initiatives to connect the global dance music community to support children in crisis. LNADJ’s commitment and passion for spreading love and positive change in communities worldwide rings true to our ethos, and their incredible volunteers and supporters make extraordinary things happen.
One of their initiatives, Get Equipped, aims to partner with manufacturers, educators, DJs and clubs to bring old or unused DJ and production equipment and instruments to educational and community organisations in the UK and beyond, reaching communities as far as Angel’s Gate, a children’s home in Tanzania.
The initiative also provides education and support to organisations to ensure longevity in their work and ensure their staff or volunteers are well-equipped to teach young people skills in both DJing and music production. It’s incredible to think that just one set of decks, speakers and music or a computer with software and samples is enough to teach at least ten young people to learn how to DJ or produce their own music. LNADJ hope to build upon their two music schools in Uganda and Tanzania to create more spaces that can provide education of this kind.
We are incredibly proud to be able to support initiatives such as this one, and we hope to build on this and send as much equipment as possible to those in need.
Martin Wright, College Principal at BIMM Brighton, commented:
“BIMM Institute Brighton works closely with the music industry and was made aware of this fantastic charity through our relationship with Brighton Music Conference, our Electronic Music Production degree course Patron. We think LNADJ have created a wonderful way to support individuals and communities through the power of music. We know this works with mental health and well-being and see the results in our college communities.
As College Principal, I have been fortunate to see thousands of aspirant music creatives at BIMM find a purpose in life through music. It is a powerful tool that breaks down barriers and speaks one language to so many, which is why we believe in your mission. The work that LNADJ does is so crucial for many underrepresented individuals and communities and will have a real impact in all the places they can reach!”
Jonny Lee, Founder of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, added:
“Get Equipped is a fantastic opportunity to see first-hand the difference that music and the arts combined have globally. We are thrilled with the world-class talents that came with us to Sierra Leone to help young adults enhance their lives through music and art. It was incredible to see their faces when the new equipment was provided to the studio. We are so grateful to have the support of an institution like BIMM. To everyone at BIMM, we thank you for supporting us in making access to music education global. If you are inspired to get involved and join us on these trips, please get in touch, or if you have a Kit to donate.”
