BIMM Berlin Band The Flavians to Perform at Glastonbury 2019

14 May, 2019

Legendary Glastonbury co-creator Michael Eavis has handpicked BIMM Berlin band The Flavians to perform at one of the world’s biggest music festivals.

Indie band The Flavians flew from Berlin to Glastonbury in Somerset to perform in the final of The Pilton Stage 2019 Competition. And their five-song set saw Michael Eavis himself select the band to take to the Pilton Stage in June.

“[Michael Eavis] was a big fan of the band and praised Liam’s voice to the skies”, says the band’s manager  – and BIMM Berlin Music Business student – Anton Rangardt. “There was only supposed to be one winner, but Michael Eavis decided to invite three bands to play…and The Flavians were one of them!”.

The band’s members are from all over the world – and came together at BIMM Berlin after bonding over a love of The Beatles and Berlin’s diverse music scene. They are:

  • Liam Blomqvist: Guitar and vocals (from Nässjö, Sweden). Liam studies Songwriting at BIMM Berlin.
  • Tom Wills: Bass and vocals (from the UK). Tom studies Music Production.
  • Anna Vaverkova: Keys and vocals (from the Czech Republic). Anna studies Songwriting at BIMM Berlin.
  • Joakim Jaegerhult: Joakim studies Drums at BIMM Berlin (from Vallentuna, Sweden)

And, to make things even sweeter, bassist and vocalist Tom Willis is originally from Glastonbury in Somerset. So this summer, he will return to his hometown to play at the same festival that the likes of David Bowie, Oasis, Arcade Fire, The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé and Radiohead have played.

Since the band’s formation at the latter end of 2017, they have played support shows across Germany and The Czech Republic while filling out venues such as Cassiopeia at the BIMM Berlin end of term gig and Berlin’s renowned venue, Badehaus.

Describing their own sound as ‘slippery slope music’, The Flavians have also built up a strong following on social media. Their debut single, ‘On the Radio’ racked up over 150,000 streams and has been played on over 50 radio stations worldwide.

The rest of 2019 is set to be jampacked for the band. As well as Glastonbury, they’ll be playing at other festivals and shows across the UK, Scandinavia and Germany.

“I think for us, the best thing [about studying at BIMM] is the support we receive from all the staff”, says vocalist Tom. “Navigating the music industry is difficult, but we’ve been able to book quite a few important tutorials before our releases to improve our planning. Also, having access to TRIXX Studios (where we recorded our last two singles) has been a big help”. And with Glastonbury on the horizon, it looks like the band’s talent and hard work have certainly paid off.

We’re wishing the Flavians all the best for their well-deserved Glastonbury slot – and have no doubt that big things are on the cards for this incredibly talented band from BIMM Berlin.
