BIMM at Liverpool Sound City

8 May, 2015

Liverpool Sound City offers the complete package when it comes to the urban festival experience. For three days the historic Bramley Moore Dock will buzz with a hectic schedule of live music and arts events, while at the heart of proceedings a music and digital industries conference brings together innovators and key players from across the country.

For five years running Sound City has been a nominee for ‘Best Metropolitan Festival’ and this year’s move to its new evocative dockland setting should see the festival go from strength to strength. Previous headliners include The 1975, Bastille, Royal Blood and Clean Bandit, while topping the bill for 2015 are Everything Everything, The Vaccines and perennial festival favourites The Flaming Lips.

At last year’s Sound City, five selected artists from BIMM Manchester had the chance to join the festival line up, giving live performances at Parr Street’s famous Studio 2. It was such a success that the idea has been expanded for 2015.  An official Liverpool Sound City A&R panel has hand-picked one act from each of the five UK BIMM colleges – Brighton, Bristol, London, Dublin and Manchester. The chosen artists will perform half hour sets on Saturday at the Festival Cavern Tent, between 3 and 6pm.

Becky Ayres is Chief Operating Officer for Liverpool Sound City. She explains what a great opportunity the festival offers for the lucky acts:

“Last year, BIMM artist Megan Dixon-Hood was a massive highlight at Sound City, receiving rave reviews from fans and media, so we are really excited about this year’s BIMM showcase. BIMM is synonymous with incredible and very diverse talent, so we’re delighted to be working with them again in 2015 on what will be another fantastic showcase for new artists.”

The chosen performers for 2015 are Frida Wallin of BIMM London, Duke Mercury of BIMM Manchester, No Violet of BIMM Bristol, Elm from BIMM Dublin and Rory Indiana of BIMM Brighton.

Briggy Smale, Head of Careers, Industry Liaison & Live Events at BIMM Manchester, says:

“BIMM are proud to be part of the internationally renowned Liverpool Sound City for the second year running and we are delighted to take this opportunity to showcase acts from our centres in Brighton, Bristol, Dublin, London and Manchester.  The acts, chosen by a Liverpool Sound City A&R team, represent the diversity of our unique talent.”
