All about that Bass

25 February, 2016

At BIMM, we love to shout about our super talented, hardworking students who are going places and using their BIMM connections to help them get there.

So we thought we’d tell you about a whole range of BIMM bass players who’ve been enjoying success recently.

Introducing…

Mike Prince

Mike graduated from BIMM Bristol in 2012 and has since established himself as an in-demand session musician in London, and an Ashdown Engineering Bass Amplification artist. He’s recently been playing with UK dance act, Dr Meaker, and has also worked with musicians including Juliette Ashby, Example, Newton Faulkner and UB40 at venues like the Isle of Wight Festival, Barclaycard Wireless Festival, The O2, SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas, and The Jazz Café, as well as supporting artists such as Eliza Doolittle, Laura Mvula, The Feeling, James Arthur and Kosheen.

Phil Simmonds

Mike Prince

Session bassist and BIMM London graduate Phil stepped into the spotlight when he was handpicked by Jessie J’s musical director while playing a small jazz gig in London. Since then his diary is increasingly packed with gigs and tour dates for artists including Plan B, Leona Lewis, Devlin and Rae Morris. He’s also the musical director for US rapper Angel Haze, founder of London-based soul band, Bassment Project, director of Grand Tone Records and the creator of the W3 Jam Sessions at the renowned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.

Victoria Smith

Victoria graduated from BIMM Brighton with a Bass Diploma and now plays in the high-profile all-female Ramones tribute band, the Ramonas, as well as for a variety of artists including McQueen, Ruf Records Blues Caravan, Herbie Flowers, Will Wilde – and even a real live Ramone: Richie Ramone! She’s taken part in BBC Radio 2 sessions, has been featured in Bass Guitar magazine, played festival headline slots and performed in theatrical productions. As a musician she is endorsed by Fender USA/Girl Rock Nation and Rotosound Strings.

Dan Logan

Since Dan graduated from BIMM Brighton, he’s been enjoying a busy music career as a high-profile session bassist, music technician and tour manager. He’s toured with The Automatic, and BIMM Brighton alumni, The Kooks, as well as performing with The Ordinary Boys, Chrissie Hynde, and his own bands, Sweet Sweet Lies, Logan and The Faithfuls, and Ryan Burnett & The Vanguards. Multi-talented, Dan has also worked as a drum technician for The Maccabees.

Stefan Whiting

Stefan has been busy studying for a BMus in Bass at BIMM London and simultaneously recording, rehearsing and performing with his band, As Lions – formed with ex-members of the metal band, Rise To Remain. The band’s driving guitar sound has won a growing number of fans, including attention from Kerrang! Magazine, and has seen them open for Five Finger Death Punch and Skindred at Wembley Arena. Their hard work and talent has also earned them a recording contract with Better Noise Records.

Jacob Manson

Jacob is a BIMM Bristol Bass graduate who is one half of the deep house and UK garage production duo, Blonde. The band are signed to Parlophone, and have a publishing deal with Sony ATV. They recently secured BBC Radio 1 playlisting for their single ‘I Loved You’ featuring singer Melissa Steel, and the track entered the UK Singles Chart at No.7. Their next single ‘All Cried Out’ features vocals from Glee actor Alex Newell and reached No.4 in the charts. The boys are currently working on material for their debut album.

Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood

Former BIMM Bristol student Adam is currently the bass player in Washington D.C.-based progressive-metal band, Periphery. He has recorded and toured extensively with them, including headlining the Pepsi Max stage at Download Festival. Adam also plays and writes for the progressive metal band Red Seas Fire, as well as working as a session/demo musician, and running a music production business.

Vicky Warwick

After completing a Bass Degree at BIMM London, Vicky has toured the world and collaborated with musicians including Guy Chambers, Tinashé, Josh Kumra, Gabrielle Aplin, Cee Lo Green, Craig David, Vanessa Amorosi and Joe McElderry.
