Aimie Mallon: Le Boom

10 July, 2019

Since their humble beginnings in 2016, Dublin-based electronic indie-house duo Le Boom have forged a reputation as one of the most infectiously energetic live acts this side of the Atlantic. In their relatively short time together, the pair have amassed a succession of impressive DIY single releases, each of which have progressed from bedroom jams to underground hits.

BIMM Dublin drum graduate Aimee Mallon makes up one half of the project, with fellow bandmate Christie Leech’s vocals, keyboards and guitar melodies perfectly complementing her energetic rhythms – both onstage and in the recording studio.

A penchant for uptempo dance grooves, glass bottle percussion breaks, bouncy bass synths and tastefully layered guitars makes Le Boom comparable to artists such as Caribou, LCD Soundsystem, The Chk Chk Chk (!!!), Hot Chip, Empire Of The Sun and Metronomy. So far, they have made an incredible impact throughout their native Ireland as well as beyond into clubs, live music venues and festivals throughout the UK, Europe and the US.

Having grown up in Navan, County Meath, Aimie first met Christie in Dublin after enrolling on a BA (Hons) in Commercial Modern MusicDrums at the BIMM Institute. The pair quickly forged an effortless musical bond and soon began carving their own niche within the city’s rich live music scene, attracting high praise from tastemakers and critics such as PopMatters, EARMILK, The Sunday Times, Nialler9, HIGHSNOBIETY and State Magazine – who described the duo as “Possibly the best live electronic act to come out of Ireland.”

To-date, the band have racked up in-excess of 2 million online streams, 125,000+ Youtube views and fervent support from Irish and US radio broadcasters. Their releases have been included on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Hot New Bands and New Pop Revolution playlists, and have featured in televised syncs from Vodafone, St Patrick’s Festival, Absolut Vodka, Made In Chelsea and Fáilte Ireland; all incredible feats for an unsigned act!

Le Boom’s sound is as difficult to pigeonhole as it is immediately uplifting. The seamless blend of Christie’s indie pop vocal hooks layered atop Mallon’s electronic house beats makes for a listening experience that’s as well-suited to a high-octane live performance as it is to being dropped by the DJ at an underground rave.

Likewise, the dance element to Le Boom’s creative output ensures it’s imbued with an incredibly strong sense of community. This is clear to see when witnessing their live shows in person, but is also exemplified in their recent collaborations with other local artists, such as their official remix for the Irish indie-rock duo We Cut Corners and their debut co-write with fellow BIMM Dublin graduate Æ Mak, ‘Dancing Bug’.

With such an inclusive sound, Le Boom are perhaps the perfect festival act. They’ve appeared previously at Primavera, Longitude, Body & Soul and Electric Picnic, and gave a show-stopping performance at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival last summer as part of BIMM’s official showcase event.

The pair have already kicked-off this year’s festival season on a high note having performed an incredible set at South Central Festival alongside the likes of Andy C, Craig David, Sean Paul, John Newman and Hannah Wants.

The remainder of 2019 sees the band performing at Sea Sessions Surf & Music Festival alongside Sigrid, Clean Bandit and Dermot Kennedy, as well as YNOT, Galway International Arts Festival supporting the Coronas and Indiependence Festival alongside the likes of Bastille, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves and Lewis Capaldi.

This October, Le Boom will complete yet another headline tour of Ireland, which sees them hitting the Duke of York, Belfast, Dolan’s Warehouse, Limerick, Glassworks in Derry, and their biggest headline appearance yet at the revered Olympia Theatre, Dublin.

We’re incredibly proud of all that BIMM graduate Aimie has achieved with Le Boom, and wish her and her bandmate Christie the very best of luck for the rest of this year’s gigging season. We can’t wait to hear what’s next for the incredibly dynamic duo.
