Piera Onako
Performance Lecturer
Piera Onako teaches Popular Music Performance at BIMM Music Institute Birmingham at both HE and FE levels. She is a pianist/synth player, composer and educator. With deep roots in jazz practices, an interest in improvisation through electronics has taken Piera down a more exploratory path of sonic experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is a regular performer both nationally and overseas, and her music has been featured in publications, including Electronic Sound Magazine, The Wire and Clash Magazine.
Piera is a Jerwood Jazz Encounters and Sound Generator artist and will be debuting work from these commissions at Manchester Jazz Festival in May. She will be touring in the UK and internationally later in 2023, following a week-long residency at Snape Maltings.
