Kristian Birch-Hurst

Following several years of study and lecturing in music, media and the arts at institutions such as Birmingham City University and the University of Birmingham, Kristian now leads BIMM Birmingham’s Music Marketing, Media and Communications course. With connections in academia and industry, he links a vast network of creative professionals to the Digbeth campus, creating job opportunities for potential tutors and student work placements.

Beyond BIMM, Kristian hails from Penarth in South Wales, spending his teenage years in various school choirs and DIY bands before relocating to Birmingham to pursue an undergraduate degree in Media and Communications. Inspired by the city’s rave culture, this move galvanised a creative shift into music journalism, dance music production and DJing.

Now Kristian enjoys a thriving freelance career with over ten years of experience in music and media sectors: as a published writer with Ransom Note, Mixmag and more; as a record label owner via independent electronica imprint Erbium Records; as a founder and promoter of club series Voyage Events; as a still-active DJ/producer under his own Trieste alias.
