Max Greenwood
Songwriting Lecturer
From Nottingham, Max has lived in Ireland since 2005 and taught in BIMM's Songwriting department since 2012. Education projects include Dublin City Council’s community Songwriting commission _The Point of the Tide_ (Sing a Song of Docklands), celebrating Ringsend & Irishtown in Dublin Bay, in collaboration with artist Jerry Fish, and _SongRise_, a UK Arts Council funded initiative providing Ecological Songwriting & Recording workshops in Hackney, London.
An improvisor, songwriter and composer known for his delicate touch on the piano, Max's musical catalogue includes two critically acclaimed albums of songs, solo piano recordings, and soundtrack sync placements in Film and TV.
Influenced by Folk traditions, Gospel, Blues & Jazz, he has played at The National Concert Hall, Theatres, Festivals, TV shows Other Voices and Later With Jools Holland, and in various line-ups across Europe with a wide range of artists including Mundy, Jerry Fish, Folk trio Iona Sound, Blues band OTIS, Tom Baxter (Better), Liam Ó Maonlaí (The Hothouse Flowers), Iarla Ó’Lionáird (The Gloaming), Mik Pyro (Republic of Loose), Jack L, Vyvienne Long, Albert Hammond (The Air That I Breathe), Adrian Crowley, Charlie Winston, Gerr Walsh, Fionn Regan, and The London Community Gospel Choir.
Studying piano from age nine, and guitar at thirteen, Max went on to complete a Commercial Music degree at Westminster University in London. He has also worked as a studio engineer and producer at London’s Premises Studios.
A BIMM-funded research project found a Lecturer-modelled learning approach developed by Max within online groups drove strong engagement and achievement, resulting in a redesign of BIMM Music Institute modules.
