We’ve made it through the first month of the decade! 2020 is an exciting year for us, and we can’t wait to see what the coming months bring!

To get the final Monday in January going, we’ve got a fresh new Track of the Week from BIMM Berlin’s Roye. Take a listen, and find out more about the track below.

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?

The verses basically mirror my feelings, breaking up from a relationship, the phases after it and how my mind was completely on it’s own ride. It is a long story – short, not just a single little thing but all the feelings added up. Of course there’s something left for the listener to translate.

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?

Usually I look up to artists like Isac Elliot, Lauv and Troye Sivan. Also, I try to keep up with the current Dance Pop acts. ‘Nothing Left to Say’ was written around the time, when Ariana Grande was releasing singles from the ‘Thank U, Next’ album, and those were a huge inspiration for the whole process.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?

I love combining the elements of Electronic drums and Organic instruments, I love the more natural vibe it sets. And I like to keep something from the demo stage recordings, for instance the guitar you hear there, is actually just a iPhone recording from the day one of writing the song.

How does your songwriting process work?

I make the fundamental ideas by improvising. I just pick up my acoustic guitar, try to get in a mood and start mumbling melodies and lyrics, which, then I pick up the pieces for my songs! I also love to work in co-writing environments. Every now and then I like to ask my friends’ current mood or some basic word ideas for a song.

Describe your sound in 3 words…

Relatable, versatile and compelling

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?

As I study Music Production, my studies mostly affect the sound of my instrumentals and how I approach them. Also I’ve got some great tips for ‘behind the scenes’ stuff!

What’s next for you?

I’ve written and produced the major part of my upcoming solo releases for 2020, also there will be a few features with great songwriters and producers! But I’m really waiting to jump back on stage ASAP since it’s been sometime since the last time.
