Rime Suspex - Time

Monday is here, and with it comes another brand new track of the week – here’s Rime Suspex with ‘Time’

What was the inspiration behind your track?
We wanted to go for a similar vibe to The Fugees / J Cole. The song is about not giving up on your goals, and not allowing negativity to stop you from achieving them. It’s about keeping on going through the tough times and not letting people bring you down or dull your sparkle!

What did your songwriting process involve?
Our rapper who also produced the track started making a beat which had an old school hip hop vibe to it. I then started writing a melody and we both just felt it straight away. I loved the feel of the beat so I was comfortable writing in that style. The song just started to flow between us both and before we knew it we had a full song. It just kinda wrote itself.

What things do you do differently to other bands?
I feel we are extremely real and literal. If we want to say something in our songs we will say it. I believe that the subjects we talk about in our music are totally relatable. We do everything ourselves in the recording process from the writing, recording, producing which gives us more creative control over our sound.

Can you describe your sound in three words?
Diverse, authentic and spontaneous.

Have you channeled any artist in particular on this track?

Lauryn Hill / The Fugees and J Cole.

What’s the best thing about studying at BIMM?

Being in a musical environment and having the chance to collaborate with such talented musicians. I also love the gig opportunities and masterclasses offered here.

What’s the best bit of music advice you’ve been given?
– Know your worth
– Network!
– Never give up

What’s next for you?
We want to expand our fan base further and keep putting music out independently. Also we want to perform as much as possible and keep busy with creating new music!
