Luna Bay - All In

Track of the Week

It’s the last Monday in October? How did that happen!

Our new Track of the Week comes from indie-rock quartet and BIMM London Alumni, Luna Bay. Having gone from strength to strength over the past few years – their latest release ‘All In’ is a definite winter warmer!

We caught up with lead singer Connor O’Mara about the track, and what’s coming up for the band.

What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?
The song all stemmed from this idea Rye (guitar) had, he sent a phone recording of the intro to me and I immediately loved it. We then finished the track together and wrote it about the excitement of the unknown and going somewhere you’ve never been before. Rye moved from Wales to London to study and we used that as an influence in the lyrics!

Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?
We all come from such different musical backgrounds, but bands we love to listen to and inspire us include Kings of Leon, Foster the People, The Cure, The Kooks and Bombay Bicycle Club.

What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?
It’s definitely a difficult thing to stand out in today’s music industry, there’s always going to be another band or artist doing something similar which isn’t a bad thing either! I think it’s always best to stick to making music exactly how you want it to sound and hopefully that can help give your music a sense of individuality.

How does your songwriting process work?
It usually starts with an idea myself or Rye has. We go from there and see where it takes us!

Describe your sound in 3 words…
Alt Indie Pop, would be my guess!

How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
It helped us in so many different aspects such as performing together on stage, but also treating the band as a business. As fun as it is being able to do what we love, we all have responsibilities in the band to help get where want to be in the future.

What’s next for you?
We have another song to release to round up our EP coming out soon, and we also go out on our first headline tour in November. The dates are:

Brighton Komedia 14th November
Manchester Jimmys 18th November
Sheffield Record Junkee 20th November
London Scala 21st November
Paris Supersonic 23rd November
