It’s Monday, and we’ve got our new music fix ready for you. This week’s Track of the Week comes from BIMM Dublin Songwriter extraordinaire Leila Jane with her new single ‘Little Lady Blues’.
What inspired you when writing this track?
I wrote the whole song in my head while in the shower…. inspired by a song that I heard in a brief for a film-music song.
Were there any particular music influences while you were writing?
When I brought the song to the band, it was clear it suited a sort of 1950s rock ‘n’ roll vibe with a defined guitar riff in that style.
Is there anything you do to try and make your music stand out?
I’m not really conscious of standing out, I just do what feels right for me and that seems to stand out in itself. My influences and vision are all quite particular and I think it’s good to constantly work on defining your own vision as an artist.
How did your songwriting process work?
For this song, I was just daydreaming – knowing what feeling I wanted to get at. The song came to me in about 2 minutes.
Describe your sound in 3 words…
Heartfelt, Rootsy, Emotive.
How has studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
It has helped immensely with confidence, learning about the industry and also expanding creativity.
What’s your favourite thing about BIMM?
The inclusive and helpful atmosphere.
Anything exciting coming up you can share?
My Launch gig for this single will be on the 29th March in the Workman’s Club Vintage Room!
