May was a good month for BIMM Bristol’s IOTA!
From wowing the crowd at BIMM’s Great Escape Showcase at the start of May, to closing the month with the highly-anticipated release their debut single ‘My Enemy’ – these guys are poised for big things in 2019! Take a listen to their single, and discover more about the band.
What was your inspiration when you began writing the track?
The inspiration is drawn from the impact that media has on society in all its forms and how we are taught how to think and feel. We are brainwashed every day by these technologies that we let control our lives and make us think we should look, act, and live a certain way.
Are there any artists that inspire you when writing?
So many bands inspire us. We all listen to different music and therefore bring different elements to our writing process. From Fleetwood Mac to Bring Me The Horizon, from Pop Punk to Jazz, our inspirations are endless.
What is key to your sound and how do you make your music stand out?
We aim to deliver great songs that provide the backdrop to truly emotional stories and spiritually intelligent concepts that connect with all but the shallowest souls. Mixing and twisting the finest elements of the last 50 years of alternative guitar music, but sprinkling our own investigative experimentation liberally on top, then finally wrapping it all in a pretty bow; hoping you will bang your head yet wipe a tear.
How does your songwriting process work?
Our songwriting process consists of all of us. Normally someone has an idea and brings it to rehearsal and we work on it as a band.
Describe your sound in 3 words…
Emotional, angsty but floaty?
How as studying at BIMM helped you develop as an artist?
It’s helped a lot with the rehearsal and live processes. LPW (Live Performance Workshop) in our first year highlighted lots of areas to focus on when playing in an ensemble situation, which we have taken on board.
What’s your favourite thing about BIMM?
The opportunities we have been able to take part in! Even before releasing any music, we had opportunities given to us that we could only have dreamed of beforehand. If you work hard, BIMM recognises that.
What’s next for you?
Lots of festivals over the summer (WHICH WE CANNOT WAIT TO ANNOUNCE, EEEK!) and maybe a little bit more music for you too *wink wink*.
