If you’ve not yet heard of Ireen Amnes, you will soon.
The former BIMM London student-turned-producer has been making plenty of noise in the electronic music scene. A string of Ibiza shows has seen her play alongside some of the world’s biggest DJs including Carl Cox, Nicole Modaber and Skin. With an upcoming EP and a monthly residency at EGG LDN, the future looks exciting for Ireen.
We recently caught up with Ireen to find out more about life after BIMM, including her big break at Space in Ibiza where she DJed with house legend Carl Cox. This incredible opportunity came about last year after Ireen entered her mix into a competition hosted by Capital XTRA and Emerging Ibiza. The vote was decided via a Twitter poll and Ireen, unfortunately, didn’t have a Twitter handle at the time, so she narrowly missed out. But it didn’t stop Emerging Ibiza and Capital XTRA’s Coco Cole getting in touch with her, as she explained:
“Straight after the competition, the guys got in touch with me telling me that my mix was picked as the best one in another competition hosted by Pioneer Music. Not only was I the winner of the latest Pioneer equipment, but I was booked to play at Space Ibiza alongside Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber, Skin and Anna.”
The talented multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer has since become a regular face on the Balearic island, with further shows at Space and Sankey’s planned for this year.
Speaking about her time at BIMM, Ireen – who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Creative Musicianship – praised the institution for helping her to hone her musical direction:
“Studying at BIMM not only gave me the knowledge in topics such as Music Business and Artist Development but also allowed me to understand what type of artist I want to be and how to develop my brand.”
So, what’s next for the hotly tipped producer? Ireen – whose musical inspirations include Björk, Apparat, Donato Dozzy, Jon Hopkins, Nils Frahm and Trentemolleris – is keeping tight-lipped about her debut EP, but has teased big things for later this year:
“The autumn is looking quite exciting for me. However, I don’t want to say more, so stay tuned.”
