Coronavirus Advice and Guidance

Updated 2nd June

As Term 3 draws to a close, and we reflect on the experience of the last few months, it is incredible to have seen how adaptable, committed and resourceful our students at BIMM can be. As the restrictions here in Germany are beginning to lift, and the welcome warmth of summer is arriving, we are working hard to ensure that our new and returning students continue to have a fantastic experience at BIMM in the upcoming academic year.

Starting in September, we are planning to return to on-site, face to face delivery for as broad a range of classes as possible. Some classes may be delivered online in order that we comply with social distancing regulations but we are committed to maximising access to our facilities for all students. As above, with Germany being comparatively fortunate in terms of the pandemic’s effects, it has now begun loosening restrictions in many cities. The German government announced on 27th May that it would extend the social distancing and contact restrictions until 29th June 2020, as well as the hygiene and preventative measures in order to continue the success in preventing the spread of the virus. It is worth noting, however, that even though general schools, educational institutions as well as cultural and tourist offers are gradually reopening, Higher Education in Germany will continue to be delivered online for the rest of the final term. As such, across all BIMM colleges, our students are now completing their studies online for the final term of 19/20 academic year. It is important to us to comply with the official regulations and to implement them responsibly – because the well-being of our students and staff is our top priority.

At BIMM, we are in close and regular contact with the German health and education authorities and closely monitor developments. As soon as the situation allows, we will further open up our services and access to our campuses in Hamburg and Berlin.

BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg fully expect to be open for business and operational for the start of academic year 20/21 and will launch our induction and enrolment events as normal in September to welcome new students.

The government is examining to what extent the entry restrictions to Germany can be relaxed, which is, of course, important for all our (current and future) international students. Even though the existing travel warning for non-essential tourist travel has been extended until June 15, 2020, the easing of entry requirements is already being discussed. It is expected that first of all the entry from other EU countries will be made easier and if the infection rates are low enough to justify it and in these cases the 14-day self-quarantine will no longer be necessary, except for entry from non-EU and countries where high infection rates continue to require careful handling.

Despite the current challenges we are all facing, we’re still dedicated to creating a rich programme of events. We are currently successfully delivering all lessons and Masterclasses digitally, bringing them directly to our current student’s homes and are running virtual admissions events so our new and prospective students feel connected and learn more about our colleges.

Our creative student’s community spirit remains strong, together, they have launched a number of innovative initiatives to keep the music playing, you can read about them here.

We will continue to strive to keep everyone interested in study at BIMM Institute fully informed in terms of the steps we are taking to ensure your admissions process is as smooth and efficient as possible, despite these potential disruptions to your academic study.

EXISTING AND NEW APPLICANTS

We understand it is a very difficult time for all students who have been working hard towards their high-school and college qualifications, and are now unsure about how those qualifications will be awarded in the summer. But there is no need to put your life on hold to delay your next steps in your educational journey – BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg are planning to open as normal in September and welcome our new cohorts.

BIMM has always been a creative community and, as such, we place a great deal of emphasis on the audition and interview element of your application, as your creative ability and goals are at the heart of our curriculum. Therefore, regardless of what plans your Government will announce regarding qualifications and completion of these, we would like to reassure you that BIMM will primarily be focussing on your audition/interview with us when making an offer. While a level of academic achievement is required for all our degree courses, we will continue to offer places to students who we believe will get the most out of the BIMM experience.

If you have already applied to BIMM Institute, a member of our Admissions Team will have been in touch with you with detailed guidance on the next steps. We also have a local Freshers Facebook Group set up for each college location which you can join at any time to connect with other applicants. These groups can be a great way to connect with your future peers and also share advice and tips for preparing to take the next step into Higher Education.

VIRTUAL OPEN DAYS

During this time, we have initiated a series of online experiences and events to help you get the information you need for your study at BIMM.

During our virtual open day events, we give a presentation on all the key facts about BIMM Institute. We’ll look at our courses, teaching methods, tutors, graduate success, employability, student services, as well as the city and culture of Berlin so you can gain a clear picture of life as a student.

The Virtual Open Day will be completely tailored to your needs and you can engage in a Q&A session with our Admissions Team. You can ask about anything from student accommodation, fees, the application process or the logistics of applying for a study visa.

ENTRANCE AUDITIONS & INTERVIEWS

An audition or interview is required for entry to all BIMM Institute courses. We have therefore established remote auditions and interviews to make it as straightforward as possible for all applicants to continue their academic journey towards study at BIMM Institute.

Our Admissions Team has contacted everyone with upcoming bookings to provide detailed information on this arrangement, as well as an update on how their application will be processed moving forward.

If you would like more information about booking a remote audition or interview, please contact our Admissions Team via email [email protected], by phone +49 30 311 99 186 or LiveChat on our website.

While our buildings remain closed to visitors, our lessons are taking place across virtual platforms and our students are now completing the final term of their study for this academic year. We are looking forward to welcoming our new students to BIMM in September 2020 and our Admissions team are open as usual and are on hand to give you all the support you need and answer any questions you might have. You can contact them via email [email protected] by phone +49 30 311 99 186 or through LiveChat on our website where you can also access up to date information on our revised admissions process and future Open Days.
