BIMM Institute Germany – Coronavirus advice and guidance

30 September, 2020

How we’re keeping our students and staff safe

In preparation for welcoming our students, lecturers and staff back into our colleges we have put in place strict measures and guidelines to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone.

Over the Summer months, we have developed detailed plans for each college, building and outside venue, to ensure the appropriate measures are put in place to be able to safely welcome everyone back into the buildings. Each building and outside space we use has undergone a detailed risk assessment and building schematics are in place with maximum room capacity, protective screens where appropriate, PPE stock and reporting procedures.

It is also important that our students understand their individual responsibility for keeping themselves and their peers safe. In order to make this as clear and simple as possible, we have developed and issued a COVID-19 Risk Assessment 2020/21 for Students which outlines responsibilities when on campus and these have been shared with students prior to their return, as well as being displayed around the buildings alongside our own commitment to their wellbeing.

We are delivering some of our teaching remotely in Semester 1 up to Christmas to ensure all students are able to engage effectively with their chosen course and experience the highest quality specialist music teaching. Our approach to learning and teaching will continue to be informed by the latest government guidance as we move through the coming months, and we are well prepared to move our teaching fully online in the event of a national or localised lockdown situation. Our fully online teaching model is also available to students who may be self-isolating or unable to attend offline classes in Semester 1.

We are in close and regular contact with the German health and education authorities and closely monitor developments to ensure that we are adhering to the latest guidelines. For information on current travel restrictions please see the latest information here for updates.

Our creative community spirit remains strong. Together, our students have launched several innovative initiatives to keep the music playing.  We will continue to keep everyone fully informed in terms of the steps we are taking to ensure your admissions process is as smooth and efficient as possible.

Existing and new applicants

We understand that it is a challenging time for all students who have been working hard towards their high-school and college qualifications, and are now unsure about how those qualifications will be awarded in the summer. But there is no need to put your life on hold to delay your next steps in your educational journey. BIMM Institute Berlin and Hamburg have now opened as with a mixture of on-campus and online learning and have welcomed our new and returning cohorts.

BIMM has always been a creative community and, as such, we place a great deal of emphasis on the audition and interview element of your application, as your creative ability and goals are at the heart of our curriculum. Regardless of what plans your Government will announce regarding qualifications and completion of these, we would like to reassure you that BIMM will primarily be focussing on your audition/interview with us when making an offer. While a level of academic achievement is required for all our degree courses, we will continue to offer places to students who we believe will get the most out of the BIMM experience.

If you have already applied to BIMM Institute, a member of our Admissions Team will have been in touch with you with detailed guidance on the next steps.

Virtual open days

During this time, we have initiated a series of online experiences and events to help you get the information you need to study at BIMM.

During our Virtual Open Day events, we give a presentation on all the key facts about BIMM Institute. We’ll look at our courses, teaching methods, tutors, graduate successes, employability, student services, as well as the city and culture of Berlin and Hamburg so you can gain a clear picture of life as a student.

The Virtual Open Day will be completely tailored to your needs, and you can engage in a Q&A session with our Admissions Team. You can ask about anything from student accommodation, fees, the application process or the logistics of applying for a study visa.

Entrance auditions and interviews

An audition or interview is required for entry to all BIMM Institute courses. Therefore, we have established remote auditions and interviews to make it as straightforward as possible for all applicants to continue their academic journey.

Our Admissions Team has contacted everyone with upcoming bookings to provide detailed information on this arrangement, as well as an update on how their application will be processed moving forward.

If you would like more information about booking a remote audition or interview, please contact our Admissions Team via email at [email protected], by phone on +49 30 311 99 186 or LiveChat.
