Budgie of Siouxsie And The Banshees joins BIMM Berlin as Head of Drums

14 July, 2015

We’re extremely excited to announce that BIMM Berlin–our newest college campus and our first on mainland Europe – is ready to welcome drumming maestro Peter Clarke – aka Budgie – as Head of Drums.

Budgie’s musical credentials speak for themselves. His experimental, nuanced and universally-admired style of drumming was debuted on The Slits’ classic album Cut in 1979 and honed over his subsequent seventeen years as drummer for the hugely influential Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Budgie’s work with the Banshees, and his other long-term musical collaboration with Siouxsie Sioux as The Creatures, has been complemented by numerous eclectic forays into experimental work – playing live with CocoRosie, performing with a full orchestral set-up for Efterklang, providing improvised drums for Japanese Taiko master Leonard Eto, and much more.

Always ready to challenge himself, as a musician Budgie has pushed the limits of traditional drumming and has an enviable track record in both artistry and career success. Like all of our BIMM lecturers, Budgie remains active as a performer and touring musician, for example drumming with the award-winning American singer-songwriter John Grant.

Budgie will be joined on the staff at BIMM Berlin by an exciting group of Tutors who between them represent a wealth of knowledge and experience, from inside and outside the traditional industry, hailing from a range of stylistic backgrounds.
