BIMM Institute Berlin Launches Two New Masters Degrees

2020/21

Here at BIMM Institute Berlin, we’re delighted to announce the addition of two brand-new degrees to our already exciting range of contemporary music courses – and this time they’re both aimed at graduates!

The postgraduate MA Popular Music Practice and MA Learning & Teaching in the Creative Industries will be available to study at BIMM Institute Berlin from September 2020 – either as one-year full-time or two-year part-time courses – allowing BIMM Institute BA (Hons) degree graduates the opportunity to continue to explore their musical interests with BIMM. And not just that… the master’s courses are open to graduates from all over the world – you just need a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree to apply.

A closer look at the courses

MA Popular Music Practice

The innovative MA Popular Music Practice allows you to choose one of four specialist pathways – performance, production, composition or entrepreneurship – making it suitable for all BIMM Institute graduates.

Fully accredited by BIMM Institute, the course is especially designed to progress in line with your personal career aspirations and involves a large amount of collaboration with students from other MA PMP fields and external industry stakeholders.

Focusing on both academic theory and research, you’ll be encouraged to investigate areas of music including performance and composition; popular musicology; the music industry and entrepreneurship; and the application of technologies to practice. The course will culminate in a Major Project – an extended piece of work exploring your chosen area of specialisation.

Across your research work, you’ll be guided by a BIMM Institute Berlin expert in your chosen field, attending regular one-to-one meetings, plus lectures and seminars with students from other disciplines, and workshops with those from your own field.

MA Learning & Teaching in the Creative Industries (MA LTCI)

The MA Learning & Teaching in the Creative Industries (MA LTCI) caters for those looking to enter a teaching career for the first time or experienced educators keen to broaden their knowledge and skills in the field of creative arts education, with both ‘Early Career’ and ‘Experienced Educator’ pathways offered. Graduates of the course will be qualified to work as teaching practitioners, educational administrators or leaders in creative arts education.

Combining expert tuition with self-guided study, you’ll engage in critical and collaborative learning with a specific focus on creative subjects, analysing your key interests, beliefs and values to develop knowledge in areas such as learning and teaching practices; instructional and curricular design; assessment and feedback practices; learning theory and psychology; creative and experiential approaches to learning; critical pedagogy; critical theory and education in society; coaching and mentoring; and leading and innovating in education.

BIMM Institute Berlin College Principal, Nick Donovan, says he’s hugely excited about the addition of postgraduate courses to the Institute’s course offering:

“The launch of these two master’s degrees widens our reach in the music education sector and gives more students than ever before the option to study with us. It also allows existing undergraduate students to continue their journey with us into postgraduate education, and the flexible nature of the courses lets students fit their learning around existing employment commitments, which can only be a good thing.”

The addition of the postgraduate degrees to the college’s already impressive list of courses is yet another example of BIMM Institute Berlin’s continued growth and achievements. We’re a true global hub of learning, currently hosting students from 44 different countries – from Spain to Slovenia, the US to the UK, Finland, Malaysia and, of course, Germany. Our location in Berlin’s artistic Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district – itself a central cog in the European music scene – sees BIMM Institute Berlin students become citizens of a truly international city, and you’ll be bound to create lifelong global connections during your stay.
