Student Success

Luke James, first year Music Business student at BIMM Brighton, is part of the downtempo electro dreamwave band François, who’ve been grabbing lots of attention and recommendations as “Ones To Watch” for 2015.

The Brighton band’s first single, the dreamy, quirky, ‘Last Night I Fell’, has already received national radio airplay from two of the most-respected tipsters in the country.

Tom Robinson is one of the most important DJs operating today, trusted to identify and promote new artists to an expectant UK public. The fact he played their single on his BBC Radio 6 Introducing show was a vitally important step for François’, and exposed their music to a huge, new audience.

Simon Raymonde, once of the Cocteau Twins — and who now runs what is possibly the coolest label in the UK, Bella Union — has a show dedicated to unearthing new talent on Amazing Radio. He too has endorsed François and given their songs a spin on the air.

The radio heavyweights are not the only people to spot François’ potential: Give It Back Magazine named them in their list of Brighton bands to watch in 2015, and they’re received plenty of grass-roots coverage on important music blogs, resulting in all-important Hype Machine exposure.

With this impressive springboard beneath them, the band have got to work gigging and recording and are due to release their debut EP in March 2015.

We love hearing about our students’ success, especially when they work hard whilst they’re still BIMM students. We constantly teach the benefits of connectivity, and push our students to actively engage with the music industry from the moment they walk through our doors.

Luke (and François) is clearly taking this advice to heart and we wish them all the best luck in building on their impressive start!
