Sophia Loizou
Course Leader, Music Production
Sophia is the Course Leader for Music Production at BIMM Institute Bristol. She is a composer, producer, and sonic artist whose work traverses sound system culture and electroacoustic composition. Central to her practice is an ongoing investigation of the connections between sonic fiction, technology, and the ecological.
Currently signed to Houndstooth Records, she has previously released albums on Cosmo Rhythmatic (Berlin), Astro:Dynamics (London) and Kathexis Records (US).
Her club and audio-visual performances have been presented across the UK and Europe, and utilise elements of UK bass music, experimental composition, and immersive sound design.
In 2018, Sophia was awarded the prestigious CHASE scholarship to support her doctoral research at Goldsmiths, University of London. Here she is engaged in practice as research, with a focus on sonic fiction and contemporary ecological sound practice.
