Professor Nick Donovan
College Principal - BIMM Institute Manchester
Professor Nick Donovan is College Principal of BIMM Institute Manchester and received his PhD in Music Composition and Interactive arts.
Nick joined the BIMM group in 2013 and has successfully helped to launch three new BIMM colleges. An experienced academic and commercial manager, he has assumed a number of leadership roles at BIMM, including Head of Education at BIMM Manchester, College Principal of BIMM Germany (Hamburg and Berlin) for five years and now leads the Manchester team as College Principal at BIMM Manchester.
Prior to joining BIMM, Nick worked as a lecturer in the Department of Contemporary Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, lecturing in critical theory and popular music discourse.
His PhD thesis entitled Composing Interactions Within Sound and Image in Digital Technologies led him to work with global, ground-breaking initiatives such as The Large Hadron Sound Collider application for Mac and Wii remote, which was developed as part of a project funded by CERN in association with the LHCSound project. In addition to his role as College Principal, Nick is also a Professor of Music awarded for his professional work as a composer and musician. Nick’s recent work sees him record and producer under the name DEADBEAR with releases on numerous record labels, performances and festival appearances across Europe, and airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 MUSIC.
