Music Production Lecturer
Alex Holmes teaches Music Production at BIMM Institute Bristol. He is a producer, composer and sound designer who specialises in atmospheric electronica and bass-heavy club music. He currently engineers for a dance music act called GotSome, composes for a TV & film music library, and contributes monthly to MusicTech Magazine.
The last five years have seen a steady stream of releases including tracks on Defected Records, MTA and Toolroom, plus major label remixes for Warner, Sony and Ministry of Sound. Through his engineering and production work with GotSome, Alex has seen widespread support from Radio 1 DJs including Annie Mac, Pete Tong and Danny Howard to name a few. Other highlights include remixing Basement Jaxx, collaborating with Wiley, and recoding in the studio with Craig David.
Alex has also been the Multimedia Editor at MusicTech since 2008, where he helps compile the magazine, writes reviews and workshops, and builds sample packs for the cover disc. Alongside this, he also composes music for television, with clients including the BBC, Sky and Channel 4.
With a BA(Hons) in Creative Music Technology and an MA in Composing for Screen, Alex spends most of his time crafting mixes and compositions at his Bristol studio, and is currently exploring making techno remixes of classic films using VJ software synced to Ableton Live.
