How to Apply to BIMM Hamburg

Below you can find all the information you need about applying for a course at BIMM Hamburg.

1. Applying

You can apply directly to BIMM Hamburg by calling our Admissions Team directly on +49 40 874 09 632 to request an application form or by completing the ‘Apply Now’ website form. We recommend that you attend one of our Open Days throughout the year so that you’re fully informed about BIMM before you submit your application. Please try not to leave your application to the last minute, as courses do fill up very quickly and we’d hate for you to be disappointed.

UK applicants are also able to apply for BIMM Hamburg courses via UCAS, the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service in the UK. When applying for a BIMM Hamburg course through UCAS you’ll need to enter our Institution Code – B39, and the Hamburg Campus Code – H. If you’re applying via this route you may find our UCAS Application Guide helpful, here you’ll find useful information about completing your application and writing your personal statement.

2. Audition/ Interview

Once we’ve received your application, we’ll invite you to attend BIMM Institute for an audition or interview. This can take place at our Berlin or Hamburg campus. If it’s difficult for you to travel to BIMM Institute in person, we’ll arrange for a remote audition/ interview to take place.

2(a). Performance (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals) and Songwriting

If you’re applying to BIMM Hmaburg for one of our performance-based courses and are an EU-based student, we’ll expect you to attend BIMM for an audition. If it’s difficult for you to travel to BIMM in person, we’ll arrange for a remote audition to take place.

All BIMM auditions are free of charge. Upon arrival at BIMM, you’ll be greeted individually and be guided through the day. During your individual audition, which generally lasts 45 minutes and takes place one-to-one with one of our teaching staff, we’ll discuss your personal aspirations and the ways in which we can help you to achieve your goals.

After your audition, you’ll be debriefed by a member of the Admissions Team. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions regarding the course you’re applying for or what to expect next in the Admissions process. We’ll then either make you an offer of study or provide feedback on how you can develop your skills further to meet the required entry standard.

The audition criteria for all our Performance and Songwriting courses will be sent to you after you have submitted your application, and you can discuss any questions you have with our Admissions team before the audition so you are fully prepared on the day.

2(b). Music & Sound Production and Electronic Music Production Interview

If you’re applying to BIMM Institute Hamburg for either the Music & Sound Production/ Electronic Music Production course and are an EU-based student, we’ll expect you to attend BIMM for an interview. If it’s difficult for you to travel to BIMM in person, we’ll arrange for a remote interview to take place.

The interview generally lasts 45-minutes and takes place one-to-one with a BIMM Institute lecturer. It will involve reviewing by playback various examples from your production portfolio and discussing a reference track by another producer or artist who has shaped and inspired your work. You can also discuss your career aspirations with our lecturer and receive feedback on continuing good practice to enhance your personal development.

An offer will then be made based upon our entry criteria, your qualifications, experience and a successful assessment.

All interview and portfolio submission criteria will be sent to you after you have submitted your application, and you can discuss any questions you have with our Admissions team before the interview so you are fully prepared on the day.

2(c). Music Business and Music Marketing, Media & Communication Interview

For the Music Business or Music Marketing, Media & Communication course, you’ll be required to complete an application form with a short personal statement outlining why you wish to study our Music Business or Music Marketing, Media & Communication course and how this links in with your career aspirations.

Your interview generally lasts 45-minutes and takes place one-to-one with a BIMM Institute lecturer. In your interview, you will be required to prepare and deliver a 5-minute presentation outlining your existing experience or career aspirations in the music/ creative fields to our lecturer. You can discuss this, and how the course will help you achieve your career goals, further in the interview after your presentation.

For EU applicants, we encourage you to complete this interview face-to-face at one of our campuses. We can also arrange for a remote interview to take place if accessibility is difficult for you.

Following your interview, you’ll be debriefed by a member of the Admissions Team. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions regarding the course you’re applying for or what to expect next in the Admissions process. We’ll then either make you an offer of study or provide feedback on how you can develop your experience further to meet the required entry standard.

All interview and presentation submission criteria will be sent to you after you have submitted your application, and you can discuss any questions you have with our Admissions team beforehand so you are fully prepared for the interview on the day.

3. Assessment de-brief 

After your audition/ interview, you’ll be debriefed by a member of the Admissions Team and advised as to whether we can offer you a place based on your successful outcome at the audition/ interview, our entry criteria and your current/ predicted academic grades.

4. Contract confirmation

If you are offered a place, you’ll be sent a formal contract and offer letter via email, it’s then up to you to confirm if you wish to take up your place. The offer may be conditional on you meeting our entry criteria if you are still studying, or unconditional if you already have met the academic entry criteria.
