Andrew joined BIMM Institute London (incorporating Tech Music School) in June 2010 as Principal. Previously, he was Deputy Principal and Director of Studies at Leeds College of Music where he was responsible for the introduction of popular music and music production to the conservatoire. He was made Professor of Music in 2008 in recognition of his contribution to music education within the conservatoire sector.
Andrew oversaw the review and expansion of BIMM Institute London’s academic portfolio, including the introduction of Music Production, and the relocation of the college from Acton to Fulham in 2013.
In July 2014, Andrew took up the newly created role of Director of Academic Development & Quality Assurance, responsible for these functions in the UK, Ireland and overseas. In September 2016, he became Academic Director and Provost, responsible for learning and teaching, quality assurance and enhancement, research and enterprise, and academic development across the BIMM Group. Andrew is Chair of the BIMM Institute Academic Board, the institution’s senior academic committee.
Andrew trained as a composer with John Pickard and Jeffrey Lewis at University of Wales, Bangor and holds an MMus in Composition and Twentieth Century Studies. He has extensive experience in Higher Education music curriculum development, having worked for the Open University on institutional accreditation and validation panels, and for the Quality Assurance Agency as a reviewer. Andrew has given a number of conference papers on music curriculum development and approaches to learning and teaching, and was a founding member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Music, Technology and Education published by Intellect. He was also a member of the Quality Assurance Agency panel that reviewed and produced the revised Subject Benchmark Statement for Music in 2016.
